ODAC Golfers of the Week

FOREST, Va. --- We cap Week 27 reporting with the second week of ODAC spring golf. League teams competed in a trio of events in Savannah, Georgia, with several top-10 showings to boast. Earning this week's ODAC Golfer of the Week honors are Washington and Lee University senior Megan Kanaby and Hampden-Sydney College sophomore Nick Rubino.

Below are entries for each of the winners from today's release. The schedule below will be used for reporting ODAC Athletes of the Week:

  • Mondays: baseball, lacrosse, softball, tennis
  • Tuesdays: outdoor track & field (begins soon)
  • Wednesdays: m/w golf

MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Nick Rubino | Hampden-Sydney | So.
Rubino, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., picks up his first ODAC weekly award of the season after claiming his first collegiate medal at the Port City Invitational. Rubino, a Division III Ping Honorable Mention All-American after tying for third at the 2022 NCAA Division III Golf Championships, tied for first with Roanoke College's Palmer Cuny following three rounds at the Savannah Country Club. Rubino was awarded medalist honors on tournament tiebreakers. He finished 6-over par at 219 on the par-71 layout set to 6,715 yards. He opened with an even 71 and posted a pair of 74's to finish one stroke clear of Jeremy Edmunds from LaGrange College. Rubino led the tournament field in par-4 scoring (4.06, +2) and tied for second in birdies (10). His efforts helped Hampden-Sydney finish second in the team standings at 908 (297-308-303), just one shot back of LaGrange. Rubino now owns a 75.7 average over 14 rounds of competition.

WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Megan Kanaby | Washington and Lee | Sr.
Kanaby, a senior from Chapel Hill, N.C., earns her first ODAC weekly honor of the season after kicking off her spring campaign with a top-10 showing at the Savannah Invitational. The 2022 WGCA First Team All-American and ODAC Player of the Year finished eighth overall at 7-over par 151 following two rounds on the par-72 track set to 5,676 yards at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga. Kanaby opened with a 5-over 77 and rebounded with a 2-over 74 in round two finish six strokes back of medalist Sarah Hsu from Oglethorpe University. Kanaby's efforts, which included five birdies, helped Washington and Lee finished third in a strong field of 18 squads. The Generals 623 (310-313) total was 23 shots back of winner Emory University. Kanaby now owns a 75.9 average over nine rounds of competition.
