Rick O'Connell, Hampden-Sydney, Sr.

O'Connell, a senior from Goochland, Va., led Hampden-Sydney to its second tournament win of the season by claiming medalist honors at the Ted Keller Memorial last week.  O'Connell was not only the lone player to finish under par, but he also was the sole competitor to shoot a sub-70 round, which he did twice on the par-70 6,624-yard layout at the Hanover Country Club in Ashland, Va.  He opened with a 1-under 69 and then followed that with a 2-under 68 to post a 3-under 137 and win by seven strokes over a trio of golfers in second place.  His efforts helped the Tigers to an 18-stroke win in the team standings (292-286--578).  O'Connell is currently second in the ODAC to teammate Brian Burt (72.0) with a 72.4 per round stroke average.
