ODAC Athletes Set to Shine at NCAA Indoor Track Championships

EMU's Chappel-Dick and BC Assistant Coach Davis Honored by USTFCCCA

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- ODAC schools will have solid representation at the 2015 NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships, set to begin this weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C.  Six student-athletes from ODAC schools, led by five from the conference's women's ranks, head to JDL Fast Track with All-American aspirations.  Roanoke College will serve as co-hosts of the event.

Eastern Mennonite University and Washington and Lee University will both send two competitors south.  Hannah Chappell-Dick, recently named the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, and Kat Lehman don Royals colors, while the Generals feature Dana Lee and Ian McDonald, with McDonald representing the lone male participant from the conference.  Bridgewater College's Kristen Trice and Shenandoah University's Jaclyn Mohlmann complete the ODAC's contingent.

Last season, ODAC athletes saw considerable success, led by former Lynchburg College sprinter Tom Sippie winning the 400-meter dash title.  W&L's Zander Tallman finished third in the event.  On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team from Roanoke College placed 11th, while Lee finished ninth in the long jump.  Mohlmann chimed in 14th in the pentathlon.

Chappell-Dick and Lehman will take to longer distances in Winston-Salem.  Chappell-Dick is slotted fourth in the mile run thanks to her ODAC record-time of 4:56.37.  While she won't be competing in the 800-meter run this weekend, she ranks sixth in the country with a time of 2:13.43.  Lehman has had a banner first season and will look to continue her success in the 3,000-meter run.  She's currently 11th in a field of 17 runners with an ODAC record-time of 9:55.49.  Lehman also tops the ODAC ranks in the 5,000-meter run, ranking 30th in D-III at 17:43.77.

Lee and McDonald continue the run of multiple representatives for Washington and Lee.  Lee looks to improve upon last season's ninth-place effort in the long jump.  Her mark of 5.60 meters (18' 4.5") is 11th in the championship field, which includes 16 other jumpers.  McDonald's success began in the fall by winning the ODAC cross country individual crown.  He ranks in the top-five in the ODAC in the 800-meter, 3,000-meter, 5,000-meter and mile runs.  He'll concentrate his efforts this weekend on the mile, where he owns the ODAC record at 4:12.51.  That sits sixth in amongst the championship's 15 runners.

Trice punched her ticket to the JDL Fast Track with an outstanding showing in the triple jump.  Under the guidance of ODAC Coach of the Year, Shane Stevens, and USTFCAAA South/Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year, Denver Davis, Trice bounded to 11.64 meters (38' 2.25"), setting the ODAC record.  She's tied for 11th with two other competitors in the 15-woman field.

Mohlmann continued to progress in the pentathlon after posting 3,188 points at last season's national meet.  She set new SU records in the high jump, long jump and pentathlon points this year.  Her school record 3,464 points are eighth in the country.
