Woodmore, Hunt also Receive Individual Honors
FOREST, Va. --- Eastern
Mennonite University senior wing Todd Phillips garnered the ODAC
Kurt Axe Player of the Year honor, as announced on Thursday at the
annual ODAC Men’s Basketball Banquet. Randolph College
head coach Clay Nunley was tabbed the Bob Johnson Coach of the
Year. Virginia Wesleyan College freshman guard D.J. Woodmore
received ODAC Freshman of the Year accolades and Randolph College
sophomore guard Colton Hunt was selected as the 2011 ODAC/Farm
Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Phillips adds this season’s player of the year honor to
back-to-back All-ODAC First Team nods. The Waynesboro, Va.
native is currently registering 18.5 points per game and 5.7
rebounds per night heading into the ODAC Tournament in Salem.
He is also second in the league in steals (2.1 spg) and is fourth
in assists (3.0 apg). Phillips has notched double-digit
points in 22-of-24 games for the Royals this season. For his
career, Phillips has scored 1,363 points and owns the program
record in steals with 183.
Nunley, in his fourth season at Randolph, earns his first ODAC
conference award. He led his team to a program-best overall
record of 16-9 and a 9-7 mark in the conference, which is good
enough for the fifth seed in this weekend’s tournament.
The WildCats will be making their first appearance in the Salem
Civic Center with their first round contest against Guilford
College Friday afternoon.
Woodmore has made an immediate impact in the Marlins’ line-up
during his rookie campaign. He ranks 10th in the league in
scoring, dropping in 13.3 points per outing and is also grabbing
5.1 rebounds each night out. The Virginia Beach, Va. native
ranks fifth in free throw percentage (81.3 percent) and is
connecting on 40.6 percent of his shots from behind the arc, which
is good enough for sixth in the conference.
Hunt, a native of Buford, Ga., is also an All-ODAC First Team
honoree who has had a banner year on and off the court. He
sports a 3.95 grade point average as a business major with a minor
in physics and is a 2010-11 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team
honoree. On the court, he ranks seventh in the conference in
scoring with 15.4 points per game. Hunt is also registering a
league-best 2.3 steals per night and is grabbing nearly five
rebounds each time out.
