LC's Graves, RC's Moir Headline ODAC Men's Basketball Awards

Guilford's Thompson and Houston also Honored

FOREST, Va. --- Lynchburg College forward Alex Graves and Roanoke College mentor Page Moir secured two of the major honors as part of the 2016 ODAC Men's Basketball All-Conference awards.  Graves was tabbed the Kurt Axe Memorial Player of the Year, while Moir earned Bob Johnson Coach of the Year laurels.  Guilford College forward Alston Thompson received ODAC Rookie of the Year honors, while fellow Quaker Zachary Houston was named the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete in a vote of the league's sports information directors.

The All-ODAC teams feature seven players that received honors in 2015, including four from this season's first team.  Virginia Wesleyan College guard Khory Moore repeats as a top choice, while Graves moves up from the second team.  LC guard Zack Burnett and Randolph College guard Zach Desgain made the leap from the third team.

Graves, a senior from Waynesboro, Va., has been one of the most consistent two-way performers in the ODAC this season, scoring in double figures in all 25 games played and registering a conference-best 10 doubles.  He's currently third in the ODAC at 17.0 points per game, while his 7.9 rebounds per contest sit second.  He's fourth in field goal shooting at 55.1-percent (161-of-292) and eighth from the foul line at 74.5-percent (102-of-137).  Defensively, he leads the ODAC with 46 blocked shots, including a conference season-best seven rejections in a Hornets' win over Emory & Henry College in late January.

Moir, in his 27th season guiding the Maroons men's basketball program, enjoys his second ODAC top coaching honor, pairing this award with the one he earned in 1994. Picked to finish 10th in the ODAC preseason poll, Moir has led his Maroons to a 19-6 overall record.  That includes an 11-5 league mark, resulting in the third seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament.  Roanoke was ranked in the D3hoops.com Top-25 for several weeks, twice reaching a rating of 20th in NCAA Division III.  Moir is the ODAC's all-time leader in career victories, currently boasting a 428-292 (.594) record.

Alston, a freshman from Durham, N.C., immediately became a strong presence in the Quakers' interior, ranking fourth in the ODAC at 7.3 rebounds per game.  He's especially effective on the offensive glass, collecting an ODAC third-best 65 offensive rebounds.  He averages 9.8 points per game and registers those efficiently, ranking ninth in the ODAC with a 52.6-percent (71-of-135) field goal clip.  He's also fifth in the conference with 23 blocked shots.

Houston, a junior from Hickory, N.C., maintains a 3.77 grade point average with majors in Health Sciences and Exercise & Sport Sciences.  A perennial member of the Guilford Dean's List and four-time selection on the Guilford Student-Athlete Honor Roll, Houston is active with the Guilford Christian Ministry as well as the GC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  He is also a certified nursing assistant.  On the court, the Quakers' captain leads the ODAC in rebounding at 8.0 per contest.  He's also #1 in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.5, second in assists with 120, and third in steals with 44.  He spends the most time on the hardwood in the league, averaging 36.4 minutes of floor time per game.
