Chris Astorga, Virginia Wesleyan, Junior, Forward
February 20, 2012Astorga, a junior from Suffolk, Va., helped the Marlins to three wins in the final week of the season, including two on Saturday and Sunday, to secure the top seed in the ODAC Tournament. Astorga posted his seventh 20+ points performance in a regular-season ending 77-49 win over Washington & Lee University. His last basket of the game pushed him over the 1,000 point plateau, making him the 23rd member of the 1,000 Point Club and the second this season for VWC, the latter a program first. For the week, Astorga shot 53% from the field, including 42% from the three-point territory. He averaged 18.7 points and 7.0 rebounds. He notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards in a win over Lynchburg. -
Malcolm Green, Emory & Henry, Junior, Guard
February 13, 2012Green, a junior from Marshville, N.C., led the Wasps to their first two-win week since Dec. 30/31 and their first back-to-back victories over ODAC teams this season. His 31 points against Roanoke on Wednesday marked a career high. He did it on 10-of-12 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and converting 9-of-11 foul shots. He added four rebounds and two assists to his stat line. Green added 17 points and seven boards, as well as the game-winning layup with 10-seconds to play, in an 81-80 win over Eastern Mennonite. Green, who has reached double figures in 18-of-23 contests, leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and is tied for third in rebounding (4.6 rpg).

Gabriel Lowder, Guilford, Senior, Guard
February 06, 2012Lowder, a senior from Yadkinville, N.C., set the Guilford school record with 10 three-pointers in Guilford's win over Roanoke, leaving himself just one short of tying the ODAC single-game mark. He made his first nine shots from long distance and finished 10-of-11 behind the arc on his way to a career-high 36 points. The output is not only the most by a Quaker this season, but it also tops the ODAC seasonal tables. Overall, Lowder shot 12-for-17 for the game and also had four rebounds and two steals in Guilford's 89-72 win over Roanoke.

Donald Vaughn, Virginia Wesleyan, Senior, Forward
January 30, 2012Vaughn, a senior from Woodbridge, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season after helping Virginia Wesleyan to a 3-0 week. Vaughn averaged 20.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots and 3.0 steals in wins over Bridgewater, Eastern Mennonite and Christopher Newport. In the week's opening contest against BC (72-52), Vaughn poured in 20 points to go with three steals and three blocked shots. In a 91-65 win over EMU, Vaughn scored 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting in 22 minutes of action. He added six boards, three steals and three more rejections to his stat sheet. He capped his week with 16 points, five rebounds and three more steals and blocks as the Marlins snapped CNU's 12-game winning streak (89-74).

Andre Simon, Randolph-Macon, Sophomore, Forward
January 23, 2012Simon, a freshman from Newport News, Va., helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a pair of ODAC victories over the past week, extending Randolph-Macon's winning streak to nine games. Simon opened the week with a 15-point 9-rebound showing in an 85-74 win over Lynchburg. He also recorded four steals, an assist and a blocked shot. On Saturday in front of a packed house against Hampden-Sydney, Simon led all scorers with 18 points and a game-best eight rebounds. While he only shot 3-of-9 from the field, he canned 12-of-14 foul shouts to help R-MC to an 86-80 win. Simon tacked on four assists and two steals in his 34 minutes of work. For the season, Simon averages 12.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Josh Pittman, Guilford, Junior, Guard
January 16, 2012Pittman, a junior from Archdale, N.C., sparked the Quakers to a 2-0 ODAC week with solid long-range shooting and sound play as Guilford's lead guard. Pittman poured in a game-high 26 points and banged home seven three-pointers in a road win over Bridgewater. He shot 7-of-10 from three-point land and corralled five boards to go with two assists and a steal. On the weekend against Eastern Mennonite, Pittman scored 17 points and dished out a game-best six assists in the Quakers' 79-73 win in Greensboro. He canned two more three-pointers and made 7-of-8 foul shots. His efforts from the charity stripe helped seal the Quakers' victory as he made all four of his free throw attempts in the final minute of the contest.

Donald Vaughn, Virginia Wesleyan, Senior, Forward
January 09, 2012Vaughn, a senior from Woodbridge, Va., posted a pair of double-doubles last week to help the second-ranked Marlins win their 11th straight contest and improve to 11-1 on the season. Vaughn led off his week with 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a big 100-80 win on the road at Hampden-Sydney. Eight of his rebounds came via the offensive glass. He finished shooting 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line. On Sunday, Vaughn capped his week with a season-high 18 points to go with 10 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. He shot 8-of-11 from the field and cashed in 2-of-3 free throws in the Marlins 99-47 win over Haverford. The double-doubles were his first two of the season and the 15th and 16th of his career. Vaughn is currently third in the ODAC with 21 blocked shots and is averaging 13.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

D.J. Woodmore, Virginia Wesleyan, Sophomore, Guard
January 02, 2012Woodmore, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Va., picks up his second straight weekly award after leading the second-ranked Marlins (by D3hoops.com) to a pair of wins over the holiday break. Woodmore scored 54 points in those contests, including a career-high 35 in a 108-80 win over Lynchburg College. That total was eight short of tying VWC's single-game scoring record. He hit career-high totals of 13 field goals, including five triples, against the Hornets. He also scored 19 points in a 96-74 victory over Wesley College. For the week, Woodmore connected on 19-of-34 field goals and 7-of-15 three-pointers. He also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists as Virginia Wesleyan moved to 9-1 on the season.

December 19, 2011Woodmore, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, Va., helped lead the second-ranked Marlins to a victory over future ODAC foe Shenandoah in VWC's only contest of the past week. Woodmore tied for game-high honors with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. He canned 4-of-7 three-pointers while also pulling down four rebounds (three offensive) and dishing out five assists. Woodmore and the Marlins are 7-1 thru the first part of the 2011-12 campaign.

Harrison George, Hampden-Sydney, Jr., Forward, Raleigh, N.C.
December 13, 2011George, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., posted 23 points on 10-14 shooting in only 20 minutes of action against the Randolph College WildCats in a 75-53 win. He also totaled four rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block. For the season, he is averaging 17.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in 20.1 minutes while shooting 66.7% from the floor. He is second in the ODAC in scoring and field goal percentage despite playing the fewest minutes of all of the top-20 scorers in conference.

Colton Hunt, Randolph, So., Guard
December 05, 2011Hunt, a junior from Whittier, N.C., picks up the third weekly award of his career after leading the WildCats to a pair of ODAC victories against Bridgewater and Washington and Lee last week. Against BC, Hunt set the school record for points in a contest with 30 on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. He also pulled down seven rebounds, came away with five steals and dished out four assists. Saturday against W&L, Hunt didn't shoot as well from the floor, but he connected on all 13 of his free throw attempts on his way to 19 points. He also corralled six boards and handed out four assists. For the week, Hunt averaged 24.5 points on 14-of-22 shooting (.636). He connected on 20-of-21 charity tosses (.952), and averaged 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals.

Manny Hernandez, Lynchburg, Sophomore, Forward
November 28, 2011Hernandez, a sophomore from Clifton Park, N.Y., put together a pair of 21-point games to help Lynchburg to a 2-0 week and a 5-1 start to the 2011 campaign. Against Marymount (Va.) on Tuesday, Hernandez came off the bench and was perfect from the field as he connected on all eight of his field goals. Included in that effort was a 5-for-5 showing from beyond the arc towards a career-high 21 points. He also added a rebound. Hernandez was back at it on Saturday as he matched is career-best on 8-of-13 shooting, including two more makes from three-point territory. He also hit three foul shots and added four rebounds and three steals in the win over Goucher. For the week, Hernandez shot .762 (16-of-21) from the field and .778 (7-of-9) from deep.

J.D. Ey, Washington and Lee, Junior, Forward
November 22, 2011Ey, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., helped lead Washington and Lee to a 2-1 week with a pair of double-doubles and nearly a triple-double in the Generals first three games. W&L opened the season with a two-point win over Dickinson in which Ey led the way with 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He added 10 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots. In another two-point win over reigning NECC champion Elms College, Ey notched 16 points and corralled an ODAC-best 21 rebounds to go with seven assists and two blocked shots. He capped his week with 10 points, six boards, two assists and a pair of blocked shots in a loss to fourth-ranked Amherts. For the week, Ey averaged 17.3 points and 12.3 rebounds to go with 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocked shots.
