A.J. Horde, Bridgewater, Sr., Guard

Horde, a senior from Oak Park, Mich., put together a strong week in leading Bridgewater to wins in both contests at the Don Glick Classic. Horde opened with 26 points and six rebounds with three assists and four steals in an 88-72 win over Keystone. He was 8-of-16 from the field and canned five three-pointers in 10 attempts from beyond the arc. In an 82-73 triumph over Apprentice School, Horde registered 18 points with two boards and five assists. He buried two more from deep, keeping him at 50-percent from downtown for the week. He also converted 8-of-11 from the stripe. For the season, Horde is second in the ODAC in scoring (18.8) and three-pointers made (24). He leads the league in minutes played (33.0), is third in steals (15) and fourth in free throws made (34).

Men's Basketball Weekly Notes

Eastern Mennonite went 2-1, making up for a loss at Emory & Henry (93-73) with wins over Apprentice (112-84) and Keystone (109-88). Maleke Jones was solid in averaging 17 points, six boards, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals in the three games. He had 24 points and seven assists against Keystone. He shot 70.8-percent (17-of-24) for the week.

Emory & Henry moved to 6-0, continuing the program's best start since going 10-0 in 1992-93. This is the third straight year the Wasps have had a winning streak of five games or better, including a nine-game run in 2016-17. The Wasps defeated Eastern Mennonite (93-73) in their lone contest. Daniel Spencer came off the bench for 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He added eight boards, two assists, and two steals.

Guilford posted a win over Methodist (79-62) in its only game of the week. Alston Thompson went for 18 points on 8-of-10 from the field, burying both of his three-pointers. He added eight boards, three assists, and a blocked shot.

Hampden-Sydney was idle last week.

Lynchburg picked up a pair of wins at the FNCB Bank Monarch Classic, topping Susquehanna (73-65) and King's (131-64). The 131 points are the second-most scored by LC in program history and most allowed by King's in its program record book. The margin of victory (67) is the largest in LC head coach Hilliary Scott's tenure. Austen Wrighten had a pair of solid outings, dropping in 19 points with six boards and three assists against Susquehanna and adding 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists with two steals against King's.

Randolph fell to 0-8 with losses to Roanoke (72-43) and at Shenandoah (80-78 OT) last week. Brian Smith had a double-double at SU with 13 points and 12 boards to go with seven assists.

Randolph-Macon went 1-1 last week, defeating Misericordia (67-56) before falling to Juniata (75-64) in two games at the Doc Greene Tournament. Daniel Noe earned an all-tournament team spot after averaging 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He had 19 points with four boards and three assists against Juniata.

Roanoke split a pair of games last week, winning at Randolph (72-43) and falling late at Virginia Wesleyan (58-55). Josh Freund registered double figures in both games, going for 11 points and four boards versus Randolph and 13 points with eight rebounds at VWU.

Shenandoah split a pair of games for the second straight week with a loss to Washington College (63-57) followed by an overtime win over Randolph (80-78). Kwa McDonald went for 17 points in both outings, including a 7-for-10 showing against Randolph. He added four rebounds in each game, with three steals versus Washington.

Virginia Wesleyan saw its winning streak snapped at seven games with a loss to Averett (63-59), but returned to the win column with a victory over Roanoke (58-55). Lamont Steward continues to perform at a high level, averaging 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds with four total blocked shots. He had 18 points with 11 boards for his third double-double against Averett. He notched 19 points with four rebounds and three steals against RC. He blocked two shots in each game.

Washington and Lee won for the fifth straight outing against William Peace (100-73) in its only game of the week. Roy McMillan went for 16 points on 5-of-7 from the field that included a 4-for-6 showing from deep. He added eight boards and two assists to the winning effort.
