Koudelka, Butler also Receive Individual Honors
FOREST, Va. --- Roanoke College midfielder
Justin Tuma headlines the 2011 All-ODAC Men’s Lacrosse Teams
as the Maroons’ standout was named the ODAC Player of the
Year in a vote of the league’s coaches on Tuesday. He
was also tabbed the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by
the league's sports information directors. Lynchburg College
mentor Steve Koudelka was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, and
Randolph-Macon College midfielder Justin Butler was named the ODAC
Rookie of the Year.
Tuma, a senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., is a standout for the
Maroons on and off the field. In the classroom, Tuma
maintains a 3.67 grad point average as a Business major with a
minor in Economics. He is a seven-time honoree on the Roanoke
College Dean's List, having also been named to the All-ODAC
Academic Team three straight seasons. Tuma is a member of
several campus organizations include SAAC, the Academic Integrity
Board, Student Conduct Board and the Academic Athletic Advisory
Committee. He is a member of Alpha Kappa Psi (national
business honorary) and participates in the Maroon Ambassador
program.
On the field, Tuma sets the pace for the Maroons from the center
spot, spurring the offense into motion as the Maroons went through
the ODAC campaign towards the tournament’s No. 1 seed.
Tuma is second in the conference and 19th in the nation
in face-off percentage (.634), and his 211 face-offs won are tops
in the ODAC. He is tied for fourth in assists (23) and
10th in total points (46). Tuma is #1 in the ODAC
and fifth nationally in groundballs, having corralled 167 loose
balls (10.44/game) so far this season. He has registered a
point in all but two games played (16 total), having notched four
or more tallies in seven contests. He is also the only player
in the conference to register more than one man-down goal (2).
Koudelka, in his 15th season guiding the Hornets,
enjoys his third ODAC top coaching honor, having led Lynchburg to
the third seed and a spot in the 2011 ODAC Tournament championship
game. Entering that contest, Koudelka owns a 165-78 (.679)
career record. His Hornets’ squads have posted 13
straight winning seasons, having reached the NCAA Tournament four
times in the last seven seasons (not including 2011 for only the
latter).
Butler, a freshman from Ocean City, Md., stepped right in to the
Yellow Jackets midfield and quickly acclimated himself to the pace
of the college game. Butler racked up 28 points with 25
goals, which sits just outside the ODAC’s top 10. In 15
games played, Butler notched at least one point in all but three
contests. His best game came against Christopher Newport
University when he recorded a career-best four goals in
R-MC’s 12-11 win.
