Marlins' Currier Leads ODAC Men's Lacrosse Awards

RC's Pilat and Jackson, W&L's Dabir also Honored

FOREST, Va. --- Virginia Wesleyan College's Josh Currier turned his record-setting season into an ODAC Player of the Year nod as the Marlins' attackman headlines the 2014 All-ODAC Men's Lacrosse Awards.  Roanoke College mentor Bill Pilat received ODAC Coach of the Year honors, while fellow Maroon, Kevin Jackson, earned ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels.  Washington and Lee University's Cameron Dabir was tabbed the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the league's sports information directors.

Currier, a sophomore from Peterborough, Ontario, set the ODAC record for most points in a season in the Marlins' quarterfinal matchup with Lynchburg.  He scored once and dished out three assists in the contest to give him 100 points, the first player in ODAC history to crack the century mark for a season.  He takes over the #1 spot from former Guilford College standout Dave Brown, who racked up 96 points in 1992.  Currier leads the ODAC with 46 assists and is second with 54 goals.  He collected at least three points in all 16 games played this season, also scoring at least one goal in each contest.  Currier entered this week ranked second in NCAA Division III at 6.33 points per game, tied for seventh at 3.53 goals per contest, and tied for eighth at 2.80 assists per outing.

Pilat, in his 26th season guiding the Maroons, enjoys his second straight and 11th overall ODAC top coaching award.  He's led Roanoke to the #1 seed in the ODAC Tournament for the second time in as many seasons, which also affords RC the opportunity to host the men's final four.  Pilat led the Maroons to a 12-4 overall record and an 8-1 mark in league play.  His career record now stands at 290-122 (.704) as he's won more than 60-percent of the games in Roanoke men's lacrosse history.

Jackson, a freshman from Baltimore, Md., stepped right in to lead the Maroons with 36 goals scored in his first campaign in Salem.  He's currently second on the squad with 51 total points, adding 15 assists to résumé.  He scored at least one goal in each of 16 games played this season, including a career-high five goals in a win over Lynchburg in early April.  He scored three or more goals in seven different contests.

Dabir, a junior from Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., shines on and off the field for W&L.  In the classroom, Dabir maintains a 3.739 grade point average as an Accounting and Business Administration major.  He is a multi-honoree on both the W&L Dean's List and the ODAC All-Academic Team.  He's also an Associate Director of the W&L Williams Investment Society (WIS), which oversees the student-managed portion of W&L's endowment.  On the field, the former ODAC Rookie of the Year (2012) is an All-ODAC Third Team honoree at attack this season.  He's second on the Generals' charts with 47 points on 23 goals and 24 assists.  He notched at least one point in all but one of 16 games played, including a season-best eight points on four goals and four assists in a win over Randolph.
