Lynchburg's Stewart Leads All-ODAC Men's Lacrosse Awards

VWC's Stewart, RC's Curry, W&L's Fraser Earn Individual Honors

FOREST, Va. --- Lynchburg College attack Austin Stewart earned ODAC Player of the Year honors from the league's head coaches to highlight the All-ODAC Men's Lacrosse awards.  Virginia Wesleyan College mentor J.P. Stewart picked up ODAC Coach of the Year accolades, while Roanoke College long stick defender Conn Curry was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year.  Washington and Lee University defender Colin Fraser received the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award.

LC's Stewart, a junior from Reisterstown, Md., lit up the ODAC scoreboards in leading the Hornets to a #4 national ranking by the USILA and the program's sixth conference title.  Stewart leads the league with 98 points as he looks to become just the second player in ODAC history to cross the 100-point plateau.  He has shattered the conference's single-season goals mark, finding the back of the net 88 times to lead NCAA Division III in total tallies and average goals scored per game (4.63).  He's also dished out 10 assists.  A four-time ODAC Player of the Week honoree, Stewart has scored at least twice in all 19 games played this season.  He registered his high-water mark in his most recent contest, scoring eight times with an assist in defeating Roanoke, 17-12, in the ODAC title game.

Stewart, in his 13th season guiding the Marlins' men's lacrosse program, enjoys his second ODAC top coaching award, adding this honor to the one he received in 2008.  Virginia Wesleyan improved by three victories in league play from a season ago, going from 4-5 to 7-2 in conference action.  That afforded the Marlins the two seed in the ODAC Tournament and a bye thru the first round of action.  With a 10-6 overall record, Stewart now owns a 102-97 (.513) career record.

Curry, a freshman from Easton, Conn., put together a strong rookie campaign as a long stick man for the Maroons, picking up 43 ground balls to place third on the team.  His 27 caused turnovers not only led the Maroons, but placed fourth in the conference.  He also got forward to register 11 points on nine goals and two assists.  Four times he registered three caused turnovers in game, and he pulled in five ground balls on two separate occasions.  He scored two goals in a game twice.

Fraser, a senior from Long Beach, N.Y., stands out on and off the field for the Generals.  In the classroom, Fraser boasts a 3.810 grade point average as a Business Administration major.  A multiple honoree on the All-ODAC Academic Team, Fraser is a W&L Scholar as well as a member of the campus' chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.  On the field, the All-ODAC First Team defenseman was a preseason honorable mention All-American and a W&L team captain.  He's registered 40 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers on the season, helping Washington and Lee to the conference lead in fewest goals allowed (132) and lowest team goals-against-average (6.93).  Fraser recorded two or more caused turnovers in a game four times and picked up three or more ground balls on eight occasions.
