Laux Returns to Randolph-Macon, Resigns as Hampden-Sydney Head Coach

ASHLAND, Va. --- Josh Laux, a former Yellow Jacket student-athlete and assistant coach, returns to campus as the men's soccer head coach at Randolph-Macon College.

"I would like to thank President Lindgren, Provost and Vice President for Student Affairs, William Franz, and Director of Athletics Jeff Burns for the opportunity to return home to Randolph-Macon College and lead the men's soccer program,” Laux said. “Coming back to R-MC is a dream come true for me and my family. I know the program already has some outstanding student-athletes and I am especially excited to begin working with them on and off the field to help establish a culture that will create success. I'm eager to begin recruiting to the College, and am looking forward to establishing a strong connection with the passionate Randolph-Macon soccer alumni."

Laux (pronounced ‘lucks’) will be just the third head coach at R-MC since 1962. Helmut Werner guided the program from 1962 through 2004 before Peter McEvoy led the Yellow Jackets from 2005 through 2014.

“Josh has demonstrated success as a head coach at our level,” R-MC Director of Athletics Jeff Burns said. “He has a passion for the sport as well as a passion for his alma mater. He will put his heart into his work at Randolph-Macon. Josh was a big part of our past success and is the best person to lead our program into the future.”

During his tenure with the Tigers, Laux worked with 92 Academic All-ODAC performers, 49 All-ODAC selections, two Academic All-Americans, three ODAC Rookies of the Year, two State Rookies of the Year and one ODAC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Laux graduated from Randolph-Macon in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and International Studies. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society and Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society.

During his collegiate career, Laux was ODAC Rookie of the Year, three-time All-ODAC, two-time All-State and two-time All-South Region. A team captain, Laux won the Compton Award following his senior season as the school's top male student-athlete. Laux is fifth on the program's career assists list with 21 and 12th in career points with 61.

Following graduation, Laux remained at R-MC as an assistant coach from 2001-04. He helped the Yellow Jackets advance to the ODAC championship game in 2002 while starting seven freshmen. R-MC finished with 2003 campaign ranked eighth in the South Region. Laux served as interim head coach in the spring of 2004.
