W&L's Bayles and Singleton Lead ODAC Men's Soccer Awards

VWC's Perrault, H-SC's Kerby Garner Special Honors

FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University took home a pair of special honors in leading the 2015 ODAC Men's Soccer awards, as midfielder Ben Bayles and head coach Mike Singleton earned ODAC Player of the Year and ODAC Coach of the Year laurels.  Virginia Wesleyan College forward Ricky Perrault was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year, while Hampden-Sydney College forward Robert Kerby picked up the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Award.

The 2015 All-ODAC Teams feature only 13 repeat honorees of the 40 selections.  The All-ODAC First Team holds seven of those former selections, including a pair of 2014 first team choices from Roanoke College in midfielder Tyler Carbaugh and defender Dio Beck.  Forwards Troy Jurney (RAND) and Rob Lentine (RC) were second team selections, while fellow striker Fredy Flores (LC) was a third team honoree.  Midfielder Blake Heatherly (RAND) was a second team choice, as was defender Patrick Barry (W&L).

Bayles, a senior from Fleming Island, Fla., proved a potent force in the center of the Generals' midfield in leading them to a conference-high 32 goals scored and the program's fourth overall ODAC title.  Bayles has racked up 21 points heading into the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Tournament, including a league-best 10 goals scored.  Two of those goals came in Washington and Lee's title-clinching 5-2 win over Randolph College in the conference championship game.  He scored two goals in a game on three total occasions, registering his other two braces in wins over Eastern Mennonite University (3-0) and Guilford College (4-0).  The two goals versus the Quakers capped a five-goals-in-four-game stretch for Bayles.

Singleton has seen marked improvement in his squad in just his second season in Lexington, evidenced by four more wins this season than the Generals posted in 2014 and the program's first ODAC title since hoisting the trophy in 2000.  W&L's 15-3-2 overall record includes a 10-0-1 unbeaten run thru the ODAC regular season in addition to three more victories in the conference tournament.  The biggest statistical improvement came offensively where the Generals more than doubled their output from 13 goals in 2014 to 32 so far this season.  Singleton, who previously spent three seasons as the MIT head coach, boasts a 61-26-8 (.684) career record entering the NCAA Tournament.

Perrault, a freshman from Portsmouth, Va., immediately became a goal-scoring threat for the Marlins, notching a goal in each of Virginia Wesleyan's first two games to kick-off his collegiate career.  Perrault finished with a team-best 14 points on seven goals scored, the latter tying for fourth in the ODAC.  He registered his first career multi-goal game and hat trick in the Marlins' 4-1 win over Shenandoah University, scoring three straight goals in the contest.  Perrault capped his season much like he started, finding the back of the net in VWC's season-ending loss to Washington and Lee in the ODAC semifinals.

Kerby, a junior from Hampton, Va., stands out both on and off the field for the Tigers.  In the classroom, Kerby maintains a 3.89 grade point average as a Chemistry major with minors in Biology and Spanish.  A multi-honoree on the ODAC All-Academic Team as well as the H-SC Dean's List, Kerby is a 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-District V First Team selection, making him eligible for Academic All-America.  He is one of six H-SC students to be selected for the H-SC/Centra Pre-Health Rotational Shadowing Program.  He also serves as the Vice President of H-SC's chapter of Chi Beta Phi national scientific fraternity, and is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership) honor society.  On the field, Kerby led Hampden-Sydney with 15 points on seven goals and one assist.  The seven goals are tied for fourth in the ODAC.  He recorded a pair of two-goal games in wins over Southern Virginia (3-0) and LaGrange (2-1).
