2016 Men's Soccer Players of the Week

Nate Berning, Lynchburg, Jr., Midfielder
October 31, 2016Berning, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., has played in a more advanced role for the Hornets this season, and it paid off with a pair of goals last week as Lynchburg went 2-0-1 in conference play to lock up the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament. Berning started his week by slotting home the game's first goal in a 2-0 victory at Guilford. He again opened the scoring two days later against Emory & Henry, beating the keeper once in a 3-0 victory over the Wasps. Lynchburg added a 1-1 draw at Roanoke to close the regular season, but not after securing seven standings points to top the league table. For the season, Berning has registerd eight points on four goals scored. -
Dylan Ritch, Washington and Lee, So., Midfielder/Forward
October 24, 2016Ritch, a sophomore from Mint Hill, N.C., helped lead the Generals to a pair of wins last week, returning Washington and Lee to solo first in the ODAC standings. Ritch dropped in a pair of goals in a 4-1 win at Emory & Henry, scoring both the second and third goals of the game. He followed that by opening the stat sheet against Randolph with his third goal of the week, propelling the Generals to a 2-0 win over Randolph. For the season, Ritch is second in the ODAC in both points (29) and goals scored (12).

Brian Breslin, Randolph-Macon, So., Goalkeeper
October 17, 2016Breslin, a sophomore from Fairfax, Va., added a pair of clean sheets to his season stat line in a pair of 1-0 Yellow Jackets' victories, including a triumph at nationally 10th-ranked Washington and Lee. Breslin came up with three saves in that contest, securing his sixth overall and fourth ODAC shutout of the season. Earlier in the week, he made a pair of stops in a 1-0 victory at Shenandoah. The two wins move Randolph-Macon into a three-way tie for first in the ODAC with 12 standings points. For the season, Breslin leads the ODAC with an .828 save percentage and is second in goals against (10) and goals against average (0.83). He has played every minute for R-MC this season.

Ben Grossfuss, Lynchburg, Sr., Forward
October 10, 2016Grossfuss, a senior from Sanford, N.C., helped the Hornets to a 2-0 week that featured wins over a pair of conference teams. Grossfuss opened the week with both of Lynchburg's goals in a 2-1 win at Eastern Mennonite. He scored the game's first goal in the 57th minute, only to see EMU level the game less than two minutes later. Grossfuss struck for a second time in dramatic fashion as he tallied the game-winner just nine-seconds before the end of the first overtime period. He went on to contribute to LC's second ODAC win of the week, a 2-1 decision at Randolph-Macon, helping the Hornets improve to 9-0-2 overall and 3-0 in league play. Grossfuss leads the Hornets and sits 10th in the ODAC with 12 points. His six goals scored are sixth in the conference.

Adam Watson, Randolph, So., Midfielder
October 03, 2016Watson, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., had a hand in all four goals scored in Randolph's 1-1 week. Watson opened with the WildCats lone strike in a 4-1 setback to nationally 16th-ranked Christopher Newport. He followed that with an explosion at Eastern Mennonite, scoring twice and dishing out an assist in Randolph's 3-1 victory over the Royals. For the season, Watson is fifth in the ODAC with 16 points on a conference third-best seven goals and two assists.

Adam Reynolds, Lynchburg, Sr., Forward
September 26, 2016Reynolds, a senior from Wilmington, Del., helped the Hornets to a pair of victories last week that included Lynchburg's ODAC opening contest. Reynolds began his week with an assist in the Hornets 2-1 victory over nationally ninth-ranked Christopher Newport. He followed that with the game's only goal in a 1-0 victory over Hampden-Sydney to kickoff conference play. For the season, Reynolds has racked up seven points on three goals and one assist.

Juan Luna, Eastern Mennonite, Jr., Midfielder/Forward
September 19, 2016Luna, a junior from Mount Jackson, Va., put together a nine-point week in helping Eastern Mennonite capture a pair of non-conference victories. Luna earned his first collegiate hat trick in a 4-3 back-and-forth affair at Ferrum. He scored twice early on to give EMU a 2-1 lead, and then came back to tally the winner with 1:35 to play via a bending free kick. Luna was back at it the Royals' 2-0 win over Albright as he had a hand in both goals, scoring in the 87th minute while adding an assist eight minutes earlier. For the season, Luna is second in the ODAC with 17 points and seven goals scored. He's tied for third with three assists.

Logan McHugh, Randolph-Macon, Sr., Midfielder
September 12, 2016McHugh, a senior from Aberdeen, Md., helped the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0-1 week including a pair of victories at the Delmarva Cup. After Randolph-Macon opened the week with a 1-1 draw against Marymount (Va.), McHugh notched a pair of assists to move his league leading total to four helpers in the Yellow Jackets' 3-1 win over Wesley College. He then got in on the goal scoring, finding the back of the net for a pair of tallies, including the opener, a 3-0 victory over Washington College. McHugh is tied for fourth in the ODAC with eight points on two goals and four assists, helping R-MC to a 3-0-2 start to the season.

Jordan Couch, Emory & Henry, Jr., Forward
September 06, 2016Couch, a junior from Abingdon, Va., started off the new season in record-breaking fashion with five goals and an assist to help the Wasps to two victories. On opening night, Couch scored the second goal in a 3-0 win at Ferrum. He then had a hand in five for E&H's seven goals in a 7-1 romp at Valley Forge. He found the back of the net four times, tying a school record in the process. The hat-trick (plus one) was the first for an Emory & Henry men's soccer player since 2011 (Luis Peralta). Couch added an assist against UVF, ranking second all-time at E&H with nine points in one game.
