Hampden-Sydney Wins ODAC Title

Tigers End WLU's 13 Year Run
LEXINGTON, Va. --- Hampden-Sydney College ended
one of the longest championship streaks in ODAC history on Sunday
afternoon as the Tigers defeated Washington and Lee University to
claim their third ODAC men's tennis title in program history.
The loss for the Generals ended their 13-year run of conference
championships. It also marks W&L's first setback to an
ODAC school since it lost to H-SC midway through the 2000
campaign.
The Tigers, behind two-time ODAC Player of the Year, William Moss,
won four singles matches and a pair of doubles ties on its way to a
5-3 victory. Moss won in straight sets at #1 singles while he
and partner Rich Pugh claimed the #1 doubles decision.
Hampden-Sydney earns the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA
Division III Tournament. Washington and Lee, ranked 25th in
the nation, must await a possible at-large bid into the tourney
field.
