TYLER MERCIER, Guilford, Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
April 18, 2011Mercier, a freshman from Bennington, Neb, picks up his second weekly award of the season. Mercier went 3-1 in two matches for the Quakers, earning a two-set victory over Hampden-Sydney College’s Shad Harrell at No. 1 singles. He continued at the top position and won a three-set decision over Roanoke College’s Jon Roy. Alongside Clayton Hamilton, Mercier went 1-1 in doubles action with an 8-4 win over the top pair from Hampden-Sydney and an 8-5 loss to the top pair from Roanoke. Mercier extended his ODAC singles win streak to six matches. -
PETER HAWKINS, Bridgewater, Sophomore, No. 1 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
April 11, 2011Hawkins, a sophomore from Silver Spring, Md., was outstanding from his number one ladder position in singles action, going 4-0 on the week. Hawkins opened the week with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Randolph’s Sam Churchill before posting a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win over 2010 ODAC second teamer Jon Roy. On Saturday, Hawkins claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win against Arvin Wong of St. Mary’s (Md.) before knocking off 2010 ODAC second teamer Chip Wintringham by a 6-3, 6-4 tally to wrap up the week on Sunday. Hawkins also went 3-1 in doubles play with teammate Brent Floyd. Hawkins is currently riding a team-best six match singles winning streak.

HAYDEN WHITE, Washington and Lee, Sophomore, No. 1 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
April 04, 2011White, a sophomore from Baltimore, Md., helped the Generals to a 1-1 week with a 9-0 win over Roanoke on Tuesday and a 6-3 loss to 17th-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Saturday. In the win over Roanoke, White notched a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and combined with junior Brian Roberts to post an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. He then recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against CMU, but he and Roberts fell at No. 2 doubles, 9-7. For the year, White has notched a 15-3 record in both singles and doubles.

SHAD HARRELL, Hampden-Sydney, Senior, No. 2 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
March 28, 2011Harrell, a senior from Richmond, Va., went undefeated in both singles and doubles this week as the Tigers went 3-0 for the week. Participating at #2 singles, Harrell won all three matches in convincing fashion, winning each in straight sets while winning all six sets by a margin of three or more games. In #2 doubles competition with Kevin Calhoun, he won all three matches by at least five points, including an 8-0 win against Roanoke. Shad is 4-1 for the season in singles play and 6-0 in doubles competition.

RICH PUGH, Hampden-Sydney, Senior, No. 1 Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles
March 21, 2011Pugh, a senior from Augusta, Ga., started off the week by breezing to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Ferrum at #1 singles, and then took care of business in 8-0 fashion at #2 doubles. In a match featuring two of the best singles players in the ODAC, Pugh downed W&L’s Hayden White (ranked 10th in the Atlantic South Region by the ITA) 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Pugh and his teammate fell 5-8 in No. 1 doubles against the Generals.

BRAD DEWITT, Bridgewater, Senior, No. 2 Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles
March 14, 2011DeWitt, senior from Waynesboro, Va., turned in a solid week for the Eagles in Hilton Head, S.C. as part of the team’s Spring Break trip. DeWitt swept his three matches on the week in singles play and also went unscathed in doubles action for the Eagles. DeWitt split his time between number one and two doubles, picking up two wins at the top spot and one victory at the number two post. All three of DeWitt’s victories in singles play came from the number two ladder position.

WILL HALL, Washington and Lee, Senior, No. 1-3 Singles, No. 1 Doubles
March 07, 2011Hall, a senior from Cape Elizabeth, Me., helped the Generals to a 4-0 week by notching a 3-0 record in singles and a 4-0 mark in doubles last week. In an 8-1 win over Lynchburg on Thursday, Hall posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles then teamed with junior Mac Davis to notch an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. In a 9-0 win over Randolph-Macon on Friday, Hall logged a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles while playing with Davis. On Saturday, he posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles and an 8-0 win with Davis at No. 1 doubles in a 5-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan and registered an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles in a 5-0 win over Emory & Henry. For the year, Hall has recorded a 5-4 singles mark and a 10-2 doubles record.

JEREMY BECHT, Washington and Lee, Junior, No. 2 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
February 28, 2011Becht, a junior from Woodstock, Ga., helped lead the Generals to a 2-0 week with wins over Bridgewater (9-0) and 25th-ranked Salisbury (8-1). In the win over Bridgewater, he posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Brad DeWitt at No. 2 singles and teamed with junior Jonathan Gaffney to defeat DeWitt and Brent Floyd at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-4. In the win over Salisbury, Becht produced a 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (3) win over David Lupinetti at No. 2 singles and teamed with Gaffney to defeat Lupinetti and Henry Stuhler at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. For the year, Becht is 6-3 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.

February 21, 2011Mercier, a freshman from Bennington, Neb., won all three matches at first singles and teamed with Clayton Hamilton for three first-doubles wins, which helped the Quakers win their first three matches of the season. Mercier won all of his singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-3, 7-5 win over his top-seeded rival from Division II Winston-Salem State. The Quakers' victories also included their first ODAC win of the season over Randolph-Macon.
