Three Earn All-American Awards at NCAA Track & Field Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa --- Three athletes combined to earn four All-American awards over three days of competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Bridgewater College standout Amber Celen sprinted her way to a pair of honors, while teammate Kristen Trice made it three All-American awards for the Eagles. Eastern Mennonite University's Hannah Chappell-Dick secured the remaining national award.

Eight conference athletes in total made the trip to Iowa.  Five women and three men took part in eight combined evevents.

Championship Results

Celen not only had the most success but she also had the busiest itinerary, competiting in three events.  After placing 15th in the long jump at 5.55 meters (18' 2.5"), she earned All-American distinction in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.  She won her heat of the 100-dash with a new ODAC record-time of 0:11.96.  She went on to finish fourth in the finals at 0:12.28.  In the 200-dash, Celen again won her heat, this time with a mark of 0:24.61 to tie her season-best performance.  She finished as the runner-up in the finals, missing out on gold by 0.04 seconds at 0:24.67.  This is the second time Celen has earned All-American honors in the 200-meter dash, adding this weekend's laurel to the one she garnered during this season's indoor championships.

Trice also etched her name in the ODAC record on the way to an All-American showing in the triple jump.  Her third attempt in the event resulted in a distance of 12.04 meters (39' 6.0") for a sixth place finish.

Chappell-Dick put the caps on a stellar career with her fifth overall All-American award and her second in the 1,500-meter run.  She placed fourth in the 12-woman final, stopping the watches in 4:27.60.  That time is just 0.35-seconds off the ODAC record, which she set last season.  Her time does rank as the best in the ODAC this year.

Virginia Wesleyan College's Marissa Coombs and Washington and Lee University's Dana Lee complete the ODAC women's contigent.  Coombs posted a time of 4:52.43 in the 1,500-meter prelims to place 20th overall.  Lee took part in the long jump competition for the third straight season -- she earned All-American honors in 2014 -- and placed 13th out of 22 competitors at 5.56 meters (18' 3.0").

On the men's side, Roanoke College standout Harrison Toney missed out on All-American status by 5.05 seconds in the steeplechase.  He finished with a time of 9:24.97 to place 10th overall.

Bridgewater's Sam Gunther saw his Alll-American bid come up short by a lesser-margin.  He placed 11th overall in the 800-meter run, chiming in at 1:51.91.   The eighth-place competitor, which is the final All-America qualifying spot, crossed the finish line in 1:51.34.

Anthony Quinn put the caps to a historic season for Randolph College track & field as he was the first WildCat to compete in the NCAA championships.  He 15th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 0:14.85.
