GENEVA, Ohio --- His tweet about it contained seven exclamation points.
Davonta Womack's text-based celebration was a reaction to the fact that the Bridgewater senior had just become "the fastest man in NCAA Division III" after winning the men's 100-meter dash on the final day of the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Womack's effort resulted in one of six All-American trophies lifted by Bridgewater athletes on Saturday, bringing the Eagles' total to eight over the three-day showcase at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Womack, who finished with one more All-American trophy than he has hands including two on Sunday, was joined by fellow Eagles Calista Ariel, Diante Cannon, Alex Galloway, and Dirk Jones in earning high honors. The latter three athletes were members of the 4x100-meter relay team with Womack.

The action began with the lone non-Eagle competing on Saturday. Eastern Mennonite's Grant Amoateng, along with Bridgewater's English Jackson, had to wait until the final day to hear their names called. Competing in his fourth national championship, Amoateng placed 13th in the triple jump at 14.60 meters (47-11.00). Jackson, in her first NCAA appearance, moved up four spots from her original seeding to place 18th in the 5,000-meter run at 18:33.05.
Ariel was next to compete. She capped a stellar season that began with the ODAC title in women's cross country in the fall. On Saturday, she held suit on her seeding following Thursday's preliminary heat in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she earned her first All-American award with a seventh place showing in the event's finals at 11:03.95. Ariel set the ODAC overall and championship record in the event at Randolph last month with a time of 10:50.41.
Bridgewater's 4x100-meter relay team of Cannon, Jones, Galloway and Womack moved up one spot from its prelim finish despite a time that was a few notches slower. The unit placed sixth overall at 0:41.64 to earn each sprinter an All-American prize. Prior to the national meet, the quartet set the ODAC overall and championship record at 0:41.16.
Womack stepped back on the awards platform a bit later in the day, this time occupying the highest block. Womack posted the second-fastest time in meet history at 0:10.20, nipping Ryan Miller from St. John's (Minn.) by 0.02-seconds to win the national title and assume the unofficial mantle as "Division III's fastest man." His time set new Bridgewater and ODAC records, the latter of which he touched for a second time on the weekend. He tied the mark of 0:10.50 on Thursday, which was originally set by Virginia Wesleyan's Randy Lott in 2014.
All five of Bridgewater's men's competitors took home at least one All-American trophy. Those efforts helped the Eagles to a tie for eighth in the team standings with Loras College (Iowa) at 20 points.
