SeaGulls Slip Past Eagles, 2-1

SALISBURY, Md. --- Bridgewater College's bid to reach the NCAA Division III Championship finals came up one run short as the Eagles lost to Salisbury University, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.

All the runs were scored in the second inning and all the runs were unearned.

In the top of the second the Seagulls took advantage of an outfield error by the Eagles to take the lead. Kelly Waskewicz drove in both Salisbury runs with a two-out single, making the score 2-0.

The Eagles got one run back in the bottom of the inning. Caity Butler walked with one out and moved to third on a single by Lauren Childress. With two outs, Drew Rutledge's grounder to short was misplayed, allowing Butler to score BC's only run.

In the fourth, the Eagles had runners at the corners, but the potential tying run was out at the plate on on an infield grounder. The Eagles also had a runner in scoring position in the sixth with one out, but were unable to come up with the clutch hit.

Ashley Gills worked the first two innings for the Eagles and took the loss. She allowed two runs, both unearned, on three hits. Lindsay Lam blanked the Seagulls over the final five innings, allowing just two hits.

Kelsey Mills went the distance for Salisbury to pick up the win. She allowed just four hits.

For the Eagles, Gills, Hillary Rees and Mallory Sandridge were named to the all-tournament team.

The Eagles finished the season with a 36-11 record.
