Randolph-Macon Advances to NCAA Super Regionals

EWING, N.J. --- Randolph-Macon softball has advanced to the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament after non-stop rain and poor field conditions forced the end of the Ewing, N.J. Regional at The College of New Jersey. With Randolph-Macon going undefeated this weekend, the Yellow Jackets were declared the champions of the Regional and will advance to face Christopher Newport, the winner of the Union, N.J. Regional.

Randolph-Macon was set to face Arcadia, which was declared the runner-up. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Knights 1-0 on Friday as senior Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va. / Patrick Henry) pitched the complete-game shutout, striking out 13. Whittemore had another stellar game on Saturday as R-MC defeated Mount Aloysius 4-0. The senior struck out 12 in that one-hit gem. Her efforts in both contests earned her Most Outstanding Player recognition for the Ewing Regional.

Juniors Sami Davidson (Stafford, Va. / Brooke Point) and Maddie Stone (Glen Allen, Va. / Glen Allen), as well as sophomore Ali Celiberti (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) were all also recognized as All-Tournament team members. Davidson had two RBIs this weekend, going 2-4 with an important bunt single on a squeeze play that was the only run of the game against Arcadia. Celiberti was 3-5 with a pair of doubles, including a double that set up the aforemention squeeze play. Stone finished 4-7 and had one of R-MC's RBIs in the game against Mount Aloysius.

Randolph-Macon now moves to the Super Regional to face No. 11 Christopher Newport at a site and time to be determined later today. The best-of-three series will take place on Friday and Saturday of this week.
