Thetford an All-American Twice, Rollo Sets Record

SHENANDOAH, Texas --- Washington and Lee University swimmers Tommy Thetford and Emily Rollo represented their school and the ODAC well at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championships, hosted by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) at the CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.  Thetford twice placed inside the top-five, earning a pair of All-American honors.  Rollo set a new W&L record during her three swims.

Thetford, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., put the caps on an impressive first season in Lexington that saw him earn the inaugural ODAC Men's Swimming Rookie of the Year accolade.  Thetford swam three times in Texas, beginning with a personal-best 20.10 in the 50-yard freestyle in the preliminaries.  In the finals, he stopped the watches in 20.17 to place fourth and garner All-American honors.

On day two, he took to the 200-yard freestyle and missed out on the finals with a 31st-place showing in the preliminaries in 1:40.29.  He rebounded nicely on third day, touching the wall fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 44.44 to secure his second All-American award and set a new W&L record.  All three of Thetford's times (50 prelims, 100 and 200 finals) set new ODAC records.

Rollo, fresh off earning ODAC Women's Swimmer of the Year recognition, also competed three times at the CISD Natatorium.  She opened with the 200-yard individual medley, placing 32nd in the preliminaries and missing the qualifying mark for the finals with a time of 2:07.75.  She didn't qualify for the finals in the 400-yard individual medley on day two, but she did set a new W&L record during her preliminary swim.  She completed the event with a time of 4:35.85 to finish 26th in the prelminaries.

Rollo capped off her performance in the 200-yard backstroke on day three.  She finished 23rd with a time of 2:04.63, which did not qualify for her finals.
