Generals Rank 14th Following Annual Survey
LEXINGTON, Va. --- The Washington and Lee
women's basketball team ranked among the national leaders in team
grade-point average for the 2008-09 school year.
The Generals' 11 players combined to produce a GPA in excess of 3.4
and ranked 14th overall among Division III schools in a recent
survey. Maryville University from St. Louis topped the Division III
list with a 3.625, followed by York College (3.624), Finlandia
(3.592), St. Benedict (3.566), Calvin (3.503), Elms (3.483),
Simpson (3.480), Messiah (3.469), Emory (3.456), Mt. St. Joseph
(3.455), Centenary (3.453), McDaniel (3.453), Hope (3.447), W&L
(3.441) and Gustavus Adolphus (3.439).
NAIA-member Dana College led all schools with a 3.763 GPA, followed
by Oklahoma Christian (3.762) and Division II-member St. Thomas
Aquinas (3.694). Indiana State paced all Division I programs with a
3.645.
Washington and Lee completed the 2008-09 season with a 14-12
overall record and a 13-7 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference. The Generals won 13 of their final 20 games, set a
program record for conference wins in a season and earned the fifth
seed for the ODAC Tournament.
Rising sophomore guard Meghan Ingram (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale)
was selected Second Team All-ODAC and earned Rookie of the Year
honors for the ODAC, VaSID College Division and NCAA South Region.
She finished her initial campaign with averages of 15.5 points, 3.4
assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. She also set a
school record with 75 three-point field goals.
Ingram, classmate Becca Bolton (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central),
who earned Honorable Mention All-ODAC honors, and rising junior
center Felice Herman (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic) all return
for the 2009-2010 season. Bolton averaged 12.4 points and 7.7
rebounds per game, while Herman contributed 10.2 points and 7.1
boards per contest.
