Indoor Track Joins Winter Season Schedule
Indoor track joined swimming and basketball in action as the
full ODAC winter season is now in full swing. Four teams,
including the ODAC's newest programs at Guilford College, took to
the indoor facilities over the past week. John Michael Pavia
was one of the stars for Lynchburg at West Virginia
University. The junior thrower tossed the weight 53 feet to
win the event. He later placed sixth in the shot put with a
46-foot 1-inch throw.
Sophomore Elizabeth Bransky got off to a solid start for
Roanoke. Also a thrower, Bransky placed 13th in
both the shot put and weight throw at Christopher Newport
University. She tossed the shot put 36-feet 7.4-inches and
the weight 36-feet 4.75-inches.
In swimming, Washington and Lee had a strong showing at the
University of Virginia, led by Sarah Simpson. The Generals'
senior swam in eight events and was WLU's top finisher each of the
three individual events. Her times in the 50-, 100- and
200-yard freestyles either set or placed within the top five in the
ODAC this season. She also participated in five freestyle
relays.
In men's basketball, Virginia Wesleyan's Stephen Fields helped the
Marlins to three wins last week, highlighted by a 71-68 triumph
over then No. 4-ranked Guilford. Fields averaged better than
19 points for the week, shooting an even 50-percent from the
field.
In women's basketball, Baylie Snyder (above) helped Emory
& Henry to three ODAC wins, the first three for the team this
season and the inaugural victories for new mentor Steve Kenner as a
collegiate head coach. Snyder notched double figures in each
contest, averaging better than 16 points for the week.
