LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Randolph-Macon Head Coach Carroll LaHaye won her 600th game Saturday afternoon in action against the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's number one team, Lynchburg, 71-59 at Turner Gymnasium. LaHaye, in her 36th season at the helm of Randolph-Macon, is just the 59th coach in the NCAA across all divisions to reach the milestone of 600 wins. LaHaye has spent her entire career coaching the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon got out to the early lead, jumping ahead 4-0, two and a half minutes into the first quarter. Sophomore Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./Halifax Academy) opened the scoring and was credited with an assist to junior Jayla Wade (Newport News, Va./Heritage) minutes into the first frame. Williams scored again to help push the Yellow Jackets out to the 6-2 lead with 5:13 remaining in the period. Lynchburg would use the middle of the first to go on an 8-2 run to tie the score at 11. Each team added a bucket to close out the period, going into the second quarter with a 13-13 tie.

Lynchburg opened the scoring in the second period, but Williams responded with a bucket of her own. R-MC regained the lead with a pair of baskets by sophomore Charlotte Woods(Richmond, Va./Trinity), bringing the advantage to 19-16. The scores were the start of an 11-0 run for the Yellow Jackets as R-MC took a commanding lead through the middle of the second quarter. R-MC maintained the distance for much of the entire second quarter and had a ten point lead at the break, 38-28.

The Hornets made the needed adjustments at halftime and came out hot over the first four minutes of the third quarter, going on a 10-0 run and tying the game at 38 with 6:11 to go. Lynchburg scored another bucket before R-MC made its first score of the period with 5:09 to go as senior Teal Reynolds (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) got a layup to go, tying the game again, this time at 40. The teams traded the lead for the remainder of the quarter, with Williams getting the last bucket of the third to put Randolph-Macon up by two heading into the final frame.

R-MC kept a slim margin until 7:18 to go in the period, when Lynchburg's Caroline Naumann made a layup to put Lynchburg's ahead. Naumann was LC's leading scorer on the night, finishing with 19 points. Freshman Becca Arrington (Amelia, Va./Amelia Academy) scored a free throw to tie the game with 6:55 to go and junior Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa./Central York) pushed R-MC back out ahead moments later with a jumper. The points were the first in an 11-6 run that gave R-MC a critical lead in the waning minutes of the game as the Yellow Jackets settled in to a 63-58 lead with 3:08 to go. Williams added another layup before Lynchburg resorted to fouls with under a minute to play  -- though to no avail as Randolph-Macon completed six of eight free throws down the stretch to win 71-59.

Randolph-Macon outshot Lynchburg 47% to 39% and went 76% from the free throw line. Williams completed every opportunity given to her at the charity stripe, going 9-9 -- while Wade, Reynolds and Arrington each shot 50% or better. The Yellow Jackets scored 46 points in the paint compared to Lynchburg's 32 and R-MC was able to score 28 points off 21 Hornet turnovers.

Williams finished the game with 35 points, four blocks and four assists while pulling in 15 rebounds. Wade had 13 points on the night while dishing out four assists. Woods tallied eight points and ten rebounds while capturing four steals. Reynolds also pulled away four steals while scoring six points and assisting four times. Rounding out the starting lineup was Wisner with four points and four rebounds.

From the bench, Arrington finished with five points and a rebound while freshman Elise Knobloch (Glenville, Pa./Delone Catholic) hauled in three rebounds.

Randolph-Macon is now in a three-way tie at the top of the ODAC Standings with Lynchburg and Guilford.

With the win, LaHaye enters into a new century level of wins. At the beginning of the season, LaHaye ranked 7th nationally in total number of victories in Division III Women's Basketball and 30th for most wins among all active head coaches at all divisions of NCAA Women's Basketball. She ranked 17th in most victories for all Division III coaches in history. She joins Susan Dunagan of Roanoke as the only ODAC coaches to arrive at the milestone. Dunagan tallied her 600th win in 2013. She is the fourth coach in the Commonwealth of Virginia to reach the 600 win mark after Dunagan, Debbie Ryan (Virginia) and Wendy Larry (Old Dominion).

Randolph-Macon returns to the hardwood on Tuesday against Shenandoah at 7:00 in Crenshaw Gymnasium.
