GC's Lamphier and Garcia, R-MC's Snee also Honored
FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University
attack Margaret Klein highlights the 2014 ODAC Women's Lacrosse
Awards as she was tabbed the ODAC Player of the Year in a vote of
the league's head coaches. Guilford College mentor Sarah
Lamphier earned ODAC Coach of the Year accolades, while fellow
Quaker E'leyna Garcia received the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance
Scholar-Athlete Award from the conference's sports information
directors. Randolph-Macon College midfielder Susie Snee
earned ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels.
Klein, a senior from North Andover, Mass., has put together a
strong final campaign in Lexington as she looks to add to the 56
points she's tallied this season with at least one more contest
ahead of her in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Klein
notched 47 goals and nine assists to lead the Generals to the top
seed and ultimately their 15th conference title. It also
marked W&L's fourth straight crown. Klein recorded at
least one point in all but one of 18 games played this
season. That included two goals and one assist in the ODAC
championship win (9-6) over Guilford. Klein also did work off
the ball, picking up 22 ground balls and 20 draw controls while
causing 11 turnovers. The Generals host Denison University in
the NCAA second round after earning a bye thru the first set of
games.
Lamphier, in her second season guiding the Quakers, has led her
squad deep in the ODAC playoffs each of the past two seasons.
In 2013, GC was eliminated in the semifinals, but this year the
Quakers made the program's first ever appearance in an ODAC women's
lacrosse title game. In her two seasons, Lamphier has racked
up a 27-9 overall record and an 18-2 mark in league play. The
2014 Quakers ranked inside the top-10 in NCAA Division III in
scoring offense for much of the season, averaging close to 17 goals
per game throughout the schedule.
Snee, a freshman from Bel Air, Md., stepped right into the
Randolph-Macon midfield and proved a valuable two-way player.
Offensively, she finished fifth on the team with 27 points on 25
goals and two assists. That total included a career-best five
points on four goals and one helper in the regular season finale
against Roanoke. Snee's linking and defensive play were
equally if not more impressive. She captured 46 draws and 45
ground balls while also causing a team-high 31 turnovers, a number
which ranks sixth in the league.
Garcia, a senior from Plantation, Fla., shines on and off the
field for Guilford. In the classroom, Garcia boasts a 3.69
grade point average as a Psychology major with a minor in
Sociology. She earned Capital One/CoSIDA Academic
All-American honors in 2013, the icing on the cake to a year that
saw her garner her second ODAC All-Academic Team and fourth
Guilford Dean's List accolades. She has been accepted into
the child clinical psychology doctoral program at Howard
University. Garcia is also active in the community as she's a
four-year volunteer with teen moms at a local Greensboro-area
YWCA. On the field, Garcia currently sits atop the conference
with 86 goals scored and is second with 106 total points, adding in
20 assists. She has been inside the top-five for goals per
game at the NCAA Division III level all season, ranking fourth at
4.78 tallies per contest thru all games prior to last week
(national stats to be updated late in the day on 5/5 by the
NCAA). For her career, Garcia ranks second on the ODAC's
all-time goals scored list with 287 tallies. She's also third
with 364 career points.
