YORK, Pa. --- The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team tied the program record for goals in a game with 27 en route to producing a 27-7 victory over Cabrini in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday in a neutral-site contest at York (Pa.) College.

Cabrini (12-8) held a slim 3-1 edge following an unassisted goal from junior attacker Avery Murphy at the 22:39 mark of the first half, but the Generals (16-4) then used a five-goal spurt to take a 6-3 advantage with 16:53 remaining. Junior attacker Cordelia Peters (Larkspur, Calif. / Hotchkiss) tallied three goals to highlight the run.

The Generals' lead was trimmed to 7-5 at the 13:57 mark following an unassisted goal from Cabrini junior midfielder Emma Rodner-Tims, but W&L extended the margin with a six-goal run over the next six minutes to take a 13-5 lead with 2:50 remaining in the first half.

Peters started the spurt at the 8:44 mark on a free position goal. First-year attacker Landon Shelley (Charlotte, N.C. / Myers Park) found the back of the net at 6:52 off of an assist from senior attacker Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville), and Peters tallied an unassisted goal just a minute later.

Sophomore midfielder Dani Murray (Denver, Colo. / Kent Denver) and first-year midfielder Claire Fulton (Hagerstown, Md. / Saint James School) both tallied an unassisted goal at the 5:08 and 4:05 marks, respectively, to give W&L a 12-5 advantage. Senior attacker Mimi MacCowatt (New Vernon, N.J. / Kent Place) then capped the flurry with a goal off of an assist from first-year midfielder Alex Meyer (Pelham, N.Y. / Hackley School) with 2:50 on the clock.

The Cavaliers ended W&L's run with an unassisted goal by Rodner-Tims at the 2:09 mark, but junior midfielder Emily Carden (Charlottesville, Va. / St. Anne's-Belfield) found Fulton with 1:14 left in the first, as the Generals claimed a 14-6 advantage heading into intermission.

Cabrini recorded the first goal of the second half, but the Generals tallied the final 13, including four each by MacCowatt and Meyer, to claim the 27-7 victory. The 27 goals matched the record set by the 2001 team, when the Blue and White won at Ferrum, 27-0, on March 8, 2001.

Against the Cavaliers, W&L held a 38-19 advantage in shots and a 26-10 edge in draw controls. The Generals also picked up 22 ground balls, compared to Cabrini's 17.

MacCowatt led the Blue and White with six goals, while Peters tallied seven points on five goals and two assists. Meyer recorded a career-high six points on a career-best four goals and two assists. Fulton finished with three goals and three assists, while Dani Murrayadded three goals. Castelo tallied two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Elliot Gilbert (Bedford, N.Y. / Deerfield Academy) played the first half in goal and made three saves. Senior Hannah Wiltshire (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) played 25:56 in net and made three stops, while junior Ellie Aburn (Towson, Md. / Notre Dame Prep) played the final 4:04 and did not face a shot.

Rodner-Tim and first-year midfielder Taylor Dimmerling each finished with two goals for the Cavaliers. Junior Devon Scharf played 52:33 in goal and recorded six saves.

Washington and Lee advances to Sunday's second round, playing at eighth-ranked York (Pa.) at 1:00 pm.
