W&L Earns All Five Special Honors to Highlight All-ODAC Women's Lax Awards

FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University earned all five major individual honors and took home a league-best nine all-conference laurels to headline the 2019 All-ODAC Women's Lacrosse Awards. Haley Tucker and Caitlin Anderson top the chart as the ODAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. Generals' mentor Brooke O'Brien earned ODAC Coach of the Year recognition, while attack Katherine Faria received ODAC Rookie of the Year distinction. Fellow attack Cordelia Peters garnered ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete honors from the league's sports information directors.

The 2019 all-conference chart features 15 players that earned honors in 2018. That list includes seven members of this year's All-ODAC First Team. University of Lynchburg attack Alicia Sandoval and Randolph-Macon College goalkeeper Elicia Wells are first teamers for a second straight season. Four players moved up from the All-Second Team. That group includes Lynchburg defender Allie O'Leary, R-MC midfielder Hannah Jones, and Shenandoah University midfielder Alyson Bittinger, and W&L's Anderson. Roanoke College midfielder Katie Clements made the leap to the first team from last year's All-ODAC Third Team.

Tucker, a senior from Manakin-Sabot, Va., returned from missing all but one game in her junior season to regain the form that saw her named to the IWLCA Player of the Year "watch list" prior to the 2018 campaign. Tucker leads the ODAC with 63 goals scored and is second with 79 points. She also leads the league in shots on goal (89) and is third draw controls (89) and free-position tallies (16-of-23). She has registered at least two points in each of 16 games played so far this season. She notched five or more points on 10 different occasions, including a career-best 10 points on seven goals and three assists in a 13-12 non-conference win at York College (Pa.).

Anderson, a junior from Manhasset, N.Y., is a versatile defender that excels in both one-on-one situations as well as zone coverage. She is eighth in the conference with 22 caused turnovers, most on W&L's squad. She has also picked up 33 ground balls and collected 67 draw controls. Her efforts helped lead W&L to conference bests in goals allowed (137) and goals against average (7.18). She also played a key role in the Generals leading the ODAC with 313 draw controls. Anderson had several strong all-around defensive and transition-leading contests, including nine draw controls, four ground balls, and four caused turnovers in a 14-13 win over Salisbury. She also had four caused turnovers to go with seven draws and three ground balls in a 19-11 victory over Dickinson.

O'Brien enjoys her seventh overall and fourth straight ODAC top coaching honor as her nationally 2nd-ranked Generals prepare for second round play at home in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament.  In midst of 12th season in the lead chair in Lexington, O'Brien led the Generals to their 10th straight and 20th overall ODAC title with a 17-7 win over Randolph-Macon in the conference championship. Entering the NCAA postseason, O'Brien boasts a 182-54 (.771) overall record that includes an 102-4 (.962) mark in ODAC play.

Faria, a first-year from Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., stepped into W&L's lineup and has proved a force on attack in each of 18 games played so far. She is eighth in the ODAC with 45 goals scored and 60 points. She scored at least one goal in all but one game. Faria registered a season-high six points on five goals and an assist in a 19-6 victory at Christopher Newport. That was the high-point of nine games where she posted at least four points.

Peters, a senior from Larkspur, Calif., shines both on and off the field for Washington and Lee. In the classroom, Peters boasts a 3.986 grade point average as a business administration major. A perennial member of the All-ODAC Academic Team, she is a multi-honoree as a W&L Scholar-Athlete. A Google Cloud Third Team All-American in 2018, Peters is the recipient of a pair of W&L endowed scholarships -- the Adrian L. McCardell Scholarship (banking and finance) and the Lewis Kerr Johnson Scholarship (rising junior business admin and accounting). She is also a 2019 initiate in W&L's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. On the field, Peters is eighth in the ODAC with 22 assists, helping her to 52 points. The total includes 30 goals scored. She has registered at least one point in 16-of-18 games played with a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists in the Generals 20-9 victory over Shenandoah in the ODAC semifinals.
