ODAC Announces 2022 All-ODAC Women's Lacrosse Awards

FOREST, Va. --- Washington and Lee University, winners of 12 straight ODAC titles, earned an ODAC-best 10 all-conference honors plus two special individual awards to headline the 2022 All-ODAC Women's Lacrosse Awards.

Roanoke College attacker Lilly Blair garnered a pair of showcase awards as she was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the conference's athletic communications personnel. Generals defender Eugenie Rovegno collected ODAC Defensive Player of the Year plaudits, while W&L mentor Brooke O'Brien earned ODAC Coach of the Year recognition. Randolph-Macon College attacker Rianna Lowery received ODAC Rookie of the Year laurels.

Twenty of this year's honorees earned all-conference distinction in 2021. That includes nine members of the 2022 All-ODAC First Team. Blair is joined by fellow Maroons teammate and midfielder Emerson Foster as repeat first teamers. The same can be said of Shenandoah University attacker Emma Stiffler and midfielder Madison Re. Washington and Lee's attacked Allie Schwab was also a first team choice in 2021.

Randolph-Macon defender Italia Carnazza moved up to the first team from last year's All-ODAC Second Team. Fellow Yellow Jacket, midfielder Lily Henderson, and 2021 ODAC Rookie of the Year, attacker Hanna Bishop from W&L, made the jump to the first team from the 2021 All-ODAC Third Team.

Blair, a senior from Salem, Va., shines both on and off the field for Roanoke. In the classroom, Blair maintains a 4.00 grade point average as a triple major in mathematics, economics, and actuarial science. She is a member of Roanoke's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa as well as Pi Mu Epsilon (math) and Omicron Delta Epsilon (economics) national honor societies. She is also a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. On campus, she serves on the EconLab in addition to a member of Roanoke athletics stat crew. She is a perennial All-ODAC Academic Team honoree.

Rovegno, a sophomore from Duxbury, Mass., made an immediate impact on W&L's defensive unit following her transfer from Bowdoin College (Maine). Rovegno has proven a strong one-one-defender on the way to an ODAC fifth-best 26 caused turnovers. That total along with 43 ground balls has made her an integral piece to the Generals' transition game. Rovegno is the team leader and ranks fifth in the conference with 78 draw controls. All of these individual numbers -- which includes one assist -- has helped Washington and Lee maintain one of the best defenses in Division III. The Generals own a 5.79 goals against average, which ranks fifth in the country.

On the field, Blair is a three-time All-ODAC honoree with a pair of first team nods and a third team selection as a first-year in 2019. Her efforts have helped Roanoke finish as the ODAC runner-up the past two seasons and earned an at-large bid to this year's NCAA Tournament. Blair currently leads the ODAC in goals scored (66) and is second in points (83). She has also collected 31 ground balls and 45 draw controls while causing 21 turnovers. Entering the NCAA first round, Blair has registered at least one point in each of 18 games played and scored two or more in 16 games. She posted a season-high eight points on seven goals with an assist in an early non-conference victory (16-4) over Ursinus College. Blair's career numbers stand at 228 points on 190 goals and 38 assists.

O'Brien enjoys her ninth overall and sixth straight ODAC top coaching honor as her nationally 5th-ranked Generals prepare for second round play at home in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament. In the midst of 15th season in the lead chair in Lexington, O'Brien led the Generals to their 12th straight and 22nd overall ODAC title with 11-5 victory over Roanoke in the conference championship. Washington and Lee enters the NCAA Tournament with a 17-2 overall record. That brings O'Brien's current career mark to 219-58 (.791), the most victories and highest winning percentage of any active coach in the ODAC.

Lowery, a freshman from Bel Air, Md., pairs this honor with a selection to the All-ODAC Third Team. Lowery proved to be an adept goal scorer and playmaker in her first season, currently ranking fourth in the ODAC in points (72) and goals scored (51) and tied for eighth in assists (21). She also corralled 57 draws to tie for 10th and notched 12 ground balls and 9 caused turnovers. Lowery registered three points in her first career game -- an 18-7 non-conference win at Methodist University -- which set the tone for a season that saw her post at least one point in 18-of-19 games played. She set a career-high with nine points on four goals and five assists in a 22-3 league win over Guilford in early April.
