Va. Wesleyan, Lynchburg, Roanoke also Recognized

SALEM, Va. --- The NCAA released its first set of regional rankings for the fall team sports (except football) on Wednesday with the ODAC earning solid representation throughout. In women's soccer, Washington and Lee University sits third in the South Atlantic Region, followed closely by ODAC counterparts Virginia Wesleyan College (4th), Lynchburg College (5th) and Roanoke College (8th).

NCAA Division III women's soccer is comprised of eight regions across the nation. The South Atlantic Region attributes rankings to eight schools. Rowan University (N.J.) currently owns the top spot in the region with The College of New Jersey holding the second position. Salisbury University is sixth followed by York College (Pa.) in seventh to round out the rankings when combined with the ODAC representatives.

New rankings will be determined each week through the end of conference tournament action. The rankings compiled through the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee aid in determining at-large bids into the NCAA postseason tournament.

Washington and Lee (12-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 ODAC) also leads a strong ODAC contingent in the regional coaches' polls conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Generals are third in that regional survey as well with Virginia Wesleyan (13-3, 8-1) and Lynchburg (11-2-3, 7-1-1) following in fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the NSCAA national poll, Washington and Lee debuted this week as #21 in the nation. Messiah College (Pa.) currently holds the nation's top billing with a 13-0-1 record.

The ODAC has a strong presence in the NCAA Division III national statistics rankings. Washington and Lee leads the country with a .833 shutout percentage, followed closely in second place by Virginia Wesleyan (.800). Lynchburg is 17th in that category at .667.   Randolph-Macon College and WLU are both ranked within the top-20 in scoring offense. The Yellow Jackets are 14th at 3.57 goals per game, while the Generals are 17th at 3.5 per contest. Individually, Randolph-Macon striker Amanda Nelms is 27th in the country at 1.07 goals per game.   Lynchburg currently sits ninth in the reports with a 0.376 goals-against-average. The Hornets' starting goalkeeper, Anna Wright, is 13th with a 0.404 GAA.
