Generals Lead Contingent in Regional Rankings

Va. Wesleyan, Lynchburg, Roanoke also Recognized
SALEM, Va. --- The NCAA released its first set
of regional rankings for the fall team sports (except football) on
Wednesday with the ODAC earning solid representation
throughout. In women's soccer, Washington and Lee University
sits third in the South Atlantic Region, followed closely by ODAC
counterparts Virginia Wesleyan College (4th), Lynchburg
College (5th) and Roanoke College (8th).
NCAA Division III women's soccer is comprised of eight regions
across the nation. The South Atlantic Region attributes
rankings to eight schools. Rowan University (N.J.) currently
owns the top spot in the region with The College of New Jersey
holding the second position. Salisbury University is sixth
followed by York College (Pa.) in seventh to round out the rankings
when combined with the ODAC representatives.
New rankings will be determined each week through the end of
conference tournament action. The rankings compiled through
the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee aid in determining
at-large bids into the NCAA postseason tournament.
Washington and Lee (12-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 ODAC) also leads a strong
ODAC contingent in the regional coaches' polls conducted by the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The
Generals are third in that regional survey as well with Virginia
Wesleyan (13-3, 8-1) and Lynchburg (11-2-3, 7-1-1) following in
fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the NSCAA national poll, Washington and Lee debuted this week as
#21 in the nation. Messiah College (Pa.) currently holds the
nation's top billing with a 13-0-1 record.
The ODAC has a strong presence in the NCAA Division III national
statistics rankings. Washington and Lee leads the country with
a .833 shutout percentage, followed closely in second place by
Virginia Wesleyan (.800). Lynchburg is 17th in that
category at .667. Randolph-Macon College and WLU are both
ranked within the top-20 in scoring offense. The Yellow
Jackets are 14th at 3.57 goals per game, while the
Generals are 17th at 3.5 per contest. Individually,
Randolph-Macon striker Amanda Nelms is 27th in the
country at 1.07 goals per game. Lynchburg currently sits
ninth in the reports with a 0.376 goals-against-average. The
Hornets' starting goalkeeper, Anna Wright, is 13th with
a 0.404 GAA.
