ROANOKE, Va. --- Hollins University Director of
Athletics David Zinn is pleased to announce the hiring of Robin
Ramirez to the position of head soccer coach and instructor of
physical education. After a nationwide search, Ramirez comes
to the Hollins campus after three seasons as the leader of the
women’s soccer program at Eureka College.
“I want to thank Dr. Hammer, Mr. Zinn and the administration
for the opportunity to join the Hollins community. Ramirez
continued, “I am extremely humbled and excited to join such a
great staff and get started.”
After graduating from Fordham University, Ramirez embarked on a
soccer coaching career that included stops at the middle school,
high school, and club levels before landing as an assistant coach
at Manhattan College in New York. During his two seasons with
the Jaspers, Robin served as an assistant coach and director of
soccer operations for the men’s program.
“I am most looking forward to being on campus and working
with the talented staff and coaching a team with tremendous
potential. From the moment I stepped on campus for my interview, I
felt welcomed and looked forward to coaching a talented group of
women who do great things on and off the field.”
Ramirez earned his first head coaching opportunity in March of 2011
when Eureka College named him as the head women’s soccer
coach. After inheriting a small roster, 11 players, his
tireless recruiting efforts built the squad size to 17 players in
just one year. After having the opportunity to bring in his
second recruiting class, Ramirez led the program to their most wins
in five seasons during the 2013 season.
It is a familiar position for Ramirez, as the Hollins program
graduated a large class last season and will begin their new era
with a roster short on numbers. “My first steps once I
get started include preparing for the upcoming season in a tough
conference, while also beginning to recruit student-athletes for
the future of the program.” Ramirez concluded,
“My feelings on the upcoming season will begin with speaking
to all the members of the team and generating excitement for the
future.”
Coach Ramirez will begin right away as his official start date is
July 1st, giving him about six weeks to get acclimated
and settled into the campus community in anticipation of the team
arriving in late August for the start of the 2014 season.
