LC Advances in NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament with Win Over Salem

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- The Lynchburg College women's soccer team got on the scoreboard early and cruised to a 4-0 win over Salem College (NC) Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Lynchburg is ranked #1 in multiple top 25 polls in the final rankings released before tournament play began.

Senior Angela Bosco delivered a goal just 1:28 into the game, driving past multiple defenders to leave her alone with the goalkeeper about 15 yards out. Senior Dessi Dupuy tapped in a cross from junior Jade Woll at the nine-minute mark and junior Morgan Singer scored from Samantha Bagherpour to make the game 3-0 at the break.

The Hornets added an insurance goal with less than three minutes left, as Kara Schaffer found the back of the net on an assist from Singer.

Paige Ketchum made nine saves for Salem (18-5). LC held a 40-2 edge in shots and a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. Tess Frelick made one save to record her ninth shutout of the season.

The Hornets (23-0) move on the face Stevenson University Sunday at 5 p.m., with the victor advancing into the Sweet 16.
