LC's Maxwell Named First Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches

LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Lynchburg College centerback Emily Maxwell added to a rather lengthy list of awards on Thursday night as she was tabbed a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA). This marks her third straight appointment to a soccer coaches organization All-American team, joining a first team nod in 2015 and second team selection last season.

Maxwell is one of 10 ODAC standouts to earn a spot on the All-South Atlantic Region team, which was announced by the United Soccer Coaches last week. Holding midfielder and fellow Hornet Kara Rombough joined Maxwell on the first team along with Bridgewater College forward Keri Rager and Virginia Wesleyan University midfielder Zoe Traficante. LC winger Kennedy Jakubek and forward Caitlins Mertens were joined by VWU centerback Brooke Adamchak on the second team. Defender Sarah Brennan and midfielder Isabelle Krider represent BC on the third team along with Roanoke College defender Laura Sullivan.

Maxwell, a senior from Quantico, Va., previously earned ODAC Player of the Year and ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors this season. No stranger to major ODAC honors, she adds her 2017 awards to 2015 ODAC Player of the Year and 2014 ODAC Rookie of the Year selections. She is now a four-time All-ODAC First Team honoree, a rare feat in any conference sport. Her honors were especially impressive in 2014 when he was tabbed the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Defensive Player and named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team after helping the Hornets capture the national title.

The anchor in the center of Lynchburg's base back-three defense, Maxwell led a unit that surrendered 21 goals against all opponents including just six tallies versus league foes. Maxwell helped the Hornets secure 10 one-goal victories with four 1-0 shutouts. That final note includes a 1-0 overtime triumph over Bridgewater in the ODAC title game where Maxwell shined in limiting a potent Eagles' front-three. She also got forward to register four points on a goal and two assists.
