Adamchak's OT Winner Sends Marlins to NCAA Second Round

SWARTHMORE, Va. --- A Brooke Adamchak goal in overtime propelled the Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team to a win over New York University in the opening round of the Division III NCAA Championship. With the win the Marlins are now 12-4-4 on the year and will square off against host Swarthmore University at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

After 90 minutes of scoreless play, VWU and NYU were slated for sudden death overtime. The Marlins took the opening kick and played the ball down the near side of the field towards the Marlins' offensive zone. Ryan McCurry played a ball over to Alex Davidson near the corner of the 18-yard box. The junior sent in a cross that Adamchak was able to trap in the box. She then turned a ripped a shot near post that beat the keeper and sealed up the Marlin win.

The Marlin offense was firing all day, outshooting the Violets 15-10. Freshman Camryn Terrycame away with a team-high six shots, while Davidson had perhaps the best chance as she just missed the top corner on a free kick in the first half.

Tristen Roberts continued her solid play in net, stopping all six of the Violet shots-on-goal and picking up her seventh shut out of the year.
