Marlins Fall to Messiah in OT in NCAA First Round

EWING, N.J. --- The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (13-6-2) fell to the No. 11 Falcons of Messiah University (17-2-1) 1-0 in overtime.

INSIDE THE GAME
The two teams battled in the first half fighting each other to find the back of the net, however, neither team was successful as the score sat tied 0-0 at the halftime horn. The Falcons controlled the ball more as they took eight shots in the half while only allowing the Marlins to take two.

As action resumed in the second half, both teams played with more urgency needing to find the back of the net. Again nether team was successful in finding a goal and thus overtime play as needed. Messiah did take seven shots to Virginia Wesleyan's one.

Six minutes of play went but and finally a team was rewarded as Messiah's No. 4 scored a goal against the Marlins sending the Falcons on to the next round. The ball slipped past the outstretched hands Amruta Karkare as she attempted to make the save finding the bottom right corner for the win.

VWU's season comes to a close with the loss in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
