W&L's Donnelly Earns NCAA Elite 90 Award for Women's Tennis

KALAMAZOO, Mich. --- The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced that Washington and Lee junior Brooke Donnelly (Kennesaw, Ga. / Marietta) is the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.

Donnelly, an accounting and business administration major, was presented with the award this morning at the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship held at Kalamazoo College.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.

Donnelly is a three-time First Team All-ODAC honoree and was an All-American in singles last season when she advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship.  This season, she is 22-2 in singles and 25-6 in doubles and is competing in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships this week.

For her career, she is 59-11 in singles and 65-13 in doubles, while leading the Generals to three ODAC titles.  The Generals went 19-6 this season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to top-ranked Emory, 5-0.

Donnelly joins sophomore Luke Farley (Durham, N.C. / Trinity School) of the men's golf team as winners of the Elite 90 Award from W&L this year.  For more information on the Elite 90 Award winners, log on to ncaa.com/elite-90.
