Washington and Lee to Represent the ODAC in NCAA Women's Tennis Field

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Washington and Lee University will be the lone ODAC school represent the league and its member institutions in the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament, as announced on www.ncaa.com on Monday afternoon. 

The women's tennis field is 49 teams large in 2018. Washington and Lee is one of 40 teams to entry the bracket as automatic qualifiers from their respective conferences. One school was picked as a true independent, while the remaining eight participants were selected at-large by the Division III women's tennis committee.

The Generals (18-7), ranked 15th nationally and fourth in the Atlantic South Region by the ITA, will join four other schools making the trip to the University of Mary Washington for early round competition. Also heading to Fredericksburg will be Franciscan University (Ohio), N.C. Wesleyan College, Lebanon Valley College, and Amherst College.

Nationally eighth-ranked Amherst (10-9) and #19 Mary Washington (19-4) received byes thru the first round. W&L will take on Franciscan (12-5), winners of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title. The winner will square off with the host Eagles in the second round. UMW earned the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) automatic bid.

Lebanon Valley (10-6) and N.C. Wesleyan (12-3) meet in the other first round showdown. The Dutchmen earned the Commonwealth Conference crown, while the Battling Bishops won the USA South title. The winner of that match will meet Amherst, which used an at-large selection to secure its spot in the field.

First round action is slated for May 10/11, with second round play on May 11/12. The third round will also be conducted at the first and second round host on May 12/13. The eight advancing programs will make their way to Claremont, Calif., for the national championship series on May 21-23.
