FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team saw its 2018 season come to an end with a close 5-4 loss to 19th-ranked Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at the UMW Tennis Courts.
Sophomores Lily Horsley (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's School) and Lauren Hassell (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) claimed an 8-2 victory over Brittany McBride and Danielle Mirabella at No. 3 doubles. The Eagles won the remaining doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.
In singles, first-year Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) topped Rachel Summers 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Senior Emily Kochard (Charlottesville, Va. / Western Albemarle) claimed a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Hannah Jabusch and Horsley defeated Caroline Mosberg, 7-5, 6-4. However, UMW won the remaining matches to reach the final margin.
The Eagles improve to 20-4 overall, while the Generals' conclude the 2017-18 campaign with a 19-8 mark.
