NEWPORT, R.I. --- The No. 15 Washington and Lee women's tennis team traveled three players to compete in the 2018 Hall of Fame International Tennis Association (ITA) Grass Court Invitational beginning on Friday.

First-years Georgia Wright (Austin, Texas/Regents School of Austin) and Taylor Garcia (Mandeville, La./Mount Carmel Academy) earned their first collegiate wins on day one in the Helena Sukova Flight. Wright defeated Marjorie Antohi of No. 10 Chicago, 7-5, 7-5, and Garcia claimed a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Chicago's Claire Honda. Sophomore Valerie Marshall (Arlington, Va./Yorktown), who competed in the Virginia Wade Flight, fell, 6-3, 6-3, to Annika Pandey of Chicago in her first action of the season.

In doubles, Wright and Garcia teamed up in the Bueno/Court Flight to defeat the team of Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Stephanie Taylor of No. 1 Emory by an 8-4 margin.

The Generals will return to action on Saturday for the second day of the 2018 Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational. Matches will get under way at 10:00 am.
