Taylor Garcia, Washington and Lee, Jr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
April 26, 2021Garcia, a junior from Mandeville, La., had a busy week in helping Washington and Lee to a 4-0 showing against ODAC opponents and a 1-1 mark in non-conference ranked matches. Garcia, who 4-1 in top flight singles play and 3-1 in #1 doubles action with partner Margaret Charlton, led off her week with two points in a 5-2 win over Virginia Wesleyan. She and Charlton won 8-1 in doubles with Garcia adding a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alexa Brewster in singles action. She and Charlton took an 8-4 loss in doubles with Garcia falling 6-4, 6-1 to Abby Moghtader in singles play as the #18 Generals fell to #15 Mary Washington, 6-3. Garcia and Charlton rebounded against Lynchburg with an 8-6 doubles win. Garcia added a 6-2, 6-2 singles win over Christina Harris on the way to a 9-0 team triumph. W&L pulled out a 7-2 result over #31 Christopher Newport. Garcia and Charlton won 8-7 (7-5) with Garcia adding a 6-1, 6-2 win over Reagan Delp in singles play. Garcia capped her week with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Grace Holderman as part of W&L's 9-0 win over Randolph-Macon. For the season, Garcia is 7-2 overall in singles matches and 5-3 in doubles play, all from the top flight. -
Christine Zalameda, Virginia Wesleyan, Jr., #2/3 Singles, #2 Doubles
April 19, 2021Zalameda, a junior from Poquoson, Va., helped Virginia Wesleyan to a 3-0 week against ODAC competition by going 5-0 in her matches. In a 7-0 victory over Guilford, Zalameda and partner Anna Rogers posted an 8-3 win over Hannah Arnett and Bea Niybizi at #2 doubles. Zalameda was leading her #2 singles match, 6-3, 3-6, 3-2, when the decision was rendered for the match. In a 9-0 victory over Ferrum, Zalameda and Rogers bested Sarah Estes and Morgan Hundley, 8-0, at #2 doubles. Zalameda added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hundley at #3 singles. Virginia Wesleyan closed the week with an 8-1 victory at Shenandoah. Zalameda and Rogers earned an 8-2 result over Madison Hansen and Madison Rogers at #2 doubles. Zalameda picked up her second straight sets win of the week via a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Lily Kimble.

Christina Harris, Lynchburg, Gr., #1 Singles/#1 Doubles
April 12, 2021Harris, a graduate student from Falls Church, Va., picks up her second weekly award of the season after helping Lynchburg post a trio of ODAC wins last week. It all started with a 5-4 win over Sweet Briar College. Harris and teammate Caroline Guill fell 8-7 in #1 doubles play against Ruth de Souza and Allison Wandling. Harris made up for that with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, win over de Souza in #1 singles action. Harrison then earned four points in a pair of 9-0 wins over Shenandoah and Guilford. She and Guill defeated Jahveesha Combs and Lily Kimble in #1 doubles play against SU. Harris then topped Combs, 6-3, 6-2, at #1 singles. Against Guilford, Harris and Guill won 8-0 over Madyson Schreiber and Hannah Pardue at #1 doubles. Harris then added a point with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Schreiber at #1 singles. Harris is now 8-1 in singles play and 6-3 in singles action this season.

Gabi Moss, Washington and Lee, Fy., #1/2 Singles, #2/3 Doubles
April 05, 2021Moss, a first-year from Paradise Valley, Ariz., earns her second straight weekly award after helping nationally 18th-ranked Washington and Lee to a pair of team wins last week including a triumph over #33 Christopher Newport University. Moss and the Generals started their week with a 6-3 win over Randolph College. Moss and Becket Waters won 8-0 at #2 doubles over Heather Whetzel and Cassidy Bell. Moss added a 6-0, 6-0, win at #1 singles over Zu Elkhansa. In W&L's 6-3 win over CNU, Moss and Claire Lacksen teamed up for an 8-6 win at #3 doubles over Kiersten Chang and Megan Bauer. Moss topped Tessa Trate, 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (11-9) in #2 singles action. For the season, Moss is 9-0 overall including 5-0 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles matches.

Gabi Moss, Washington and Lee, Fy., #2/3 Singles, #3 Doubles
March 29, 2021Moss, a first-year from Paradise Valley, Ariz., picks up her first collegiate weekly award after going 3-0 last week in a pair matches for Washington and Lee. Moss picked up one of the nationally 18th-ranked Generals three points in their 6-3 setback to #15 Mary Washington. She won 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) over Lauren Quinn at #3 singles. Moss then earned two points as in W&L's 8-1 win over Sweet Briar College. She joined Nell Covington to defeat Alexia Alfaro and Ruth Lechner at #3 doubles. Moss earned a 6-3, 6-2, singles win over Allison Wandling in second-flight action. For the season, Moss is 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles matches.

Allison Wandling, Sweet Briar, So., #2 Singles, #1 Doubles
March 22, 2021Wandling, a sophomore from Mechanicsville, Va., went a combined 8-0 at #2 singles and #1 doubles to help Sweet Briar to a 4-0 week including a 3-0 showing versus ODAC opponents. Wandling, who is now 9-2 overall in singles matches and 11-0 overall in doubles play, lost just six total games over her eight outings. She and Ruth de Souza were 4-0 at #1 singles, beginning with an 8-1 win over Madison Hansen and Lily Kimble of Shenandoah. Wandling then defeated Kimble, 6-0, 6-0, in singles play towards a 9-0 Vixens team win. In a 9-0 win over Ferrum, Wandling and de Souza won 8-0 over Madison Wright and Morgan Hundley. Wandling then won 6-0, 6-0, over Tennessee Phillips in singles play. In a 9-0 win over Randolph, SBC's duo won 8-0 over Zu Elkhansa and Bailey Livingston. Wandling added a 6-0, 6-0, win over Heather Whetzel in singles play. Sweet Briar picked up a much tighter 5-4 triumph over Methodist University. Wandling and de Souza earned an 8-2 win over Abby Caddick and Sydni Lewis. Wandling then won 6-1, 6-2, over Jill Lawrence in singles action.

Valerie Marshall, Washington and Lee, Sr., #1/2 Singles, #1/3 Doubles
March 15, 2021Marshall, a senior from Arlington, Va., helped the Generals get their season started off on the right off by going 4-0 during a pair of Washington and Lee team victories. In a 9-0 victory over Roanoke, Marshall joined Gabi Moss for an 8-0 win over Lucy Collins and Halle Fernstrum at #1 doubles. She then won 6-0, 6-0, over Collins in #1 singles play. In a 9-0 triumph over Emory & Henry, Marshall and Claire Lacksen partnered for an 8-1 win over Cailie Pollard and Sarah Marion at #3 doubles. Marshall then defeated Tess Flanigan, 6-1, 6-1, at #2 singles.

Ruth de Souza, Sweet Briar, So., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
March 08, 2021de Souza, a sophomore from Marilia, Brazil, lost only two games combined in her two singles matches as she helped Sweet Briar to a pair of team victories last week. In an 8-1 road win at Randolph-Macon, de Souza won 6-1, 6-0 at #1 singles and then joined Allison Wandling for an 8-1 triumph at #1 doubles. In a 7-2 victory on the road at Roanoke, de Souza again won 6-1, 6-0 at #1 singles and paired with Wandling for an 8-2 win at #1 doubles. For the season, de Souza is 6-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles action.

Christina Harris, Lynchburg, Gr., #1 Singles/#1 Doubles
March 01, 2021Harris, a graduate student from Falls Church, Va., kicked off the 2021 spring season by collecting a pair of points to lead Lynchburg to a 5-4 victory team win over Methodist University. The victory marks the first time the Hornets have topped the Monarchs since 1993. Harris joined Lauren Pascadlo to earn an 8-6 win at #1 doubles over MU's Abby Caddick and Sydni Lewis. Harris then went up against Caddick in #1 singles action and posted a 6-0, 6-4 triumph.
