Paula Ryhsen, Averett, Jr., #1/2 Singles, #1/2 Doubles
April 17, 2023Ryhsen, a junior from Dusseldorf, Germany, collects her first ODAC weekly honor after helping Averett to four team victories with a pair of ODAC triumphs. Ryhsen split time between #1 and #2 flights in both singles and doubles play with three different double partners. In an 8-1 team win over Division II foe Shaw University, Ryhsen partner with Keira Gunning at #1 doubles. They dropped an 8-2 result to Dana Moreno and Prerana Koirala with the latter from SU topping Ryhsen, 6-2, 6-2, at #2 singles. In a 9-0 Cougars triumph at Pfeiffer University, Ryhsen defeated Eilthe Hudson, 6-2, 6-0, at #2 singles. She and Alejandra Garcia won, 8-4, at #2 doubles over Hudson and Riley Isley. In an 8-1 team victory over Hollins, Ryhsen and Amelie Brune posted an 8-0 win over Peyton Jones and Charlie Miller at #2 doubles. Ryhsen dropped a tight 3-6, 6-1, 9-11 top-flight singles match to Jessica Willebeek-LeMair. Averett capped its week with an 8-1 win over Virginia Wesleyan. Ryhsen and Garcia won 8-3 over Christine Zalameda and Shannon Lewes at #2 doubles. Ryhsen defeated Zalameda, 6-1, 6-0, at #2 singles. Ryhsen is 11-7 in all singles matches including 5-3 in ODAC play. She is 17-5 in doubles play with multiple partners. -
Jahveesha Combs, Shenandoah, Jr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
April 10, 2023Combs, a junior from Suffolk, Va., picks up her second weekly award of the year after helping Shenandoah improve to 6-2 in the ODAC standings with two more remaining before conference postseason play. Combs continued her run as the Hornets #1 singles player and doubles tandem with Lily Kimble as they helped SU top Virginia Wesleyan, 8-1, and Ferrum, 9-0, in a pair of home matches. Combs and Kimble downed VWU's duo of Maya Brown and Kristina Abrams, 8-0, with Combs adding a second point with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Christine Zalameda. Against Ferrum, Combs had her singles match cut short when her opponent Tennessee Phillips retired with Combs leading, 5-0, in the first set. In doubles play, Combs and Kimble defeated Phillips and Emma Loughrey, 8-0. For the season, Combs is 12-4 in all singles matches including 11-3 at #1. She and Kimble are 8-3 as a doubles team, all from the top flight.

Lauren Long, Washington and Lee, Fy.
April 03, 2023Long, a first-year from Carmel, Ind., picks up her second ODAC weekly honor in as many weeks after helping nationally 25th-rank Washington and Lee to three of its four team victories last week. Long went 6-0 at top flight singles and doubles play with the Generals posting 9-0 victories over Averett, at 33rd-ranked Christopher Newport, and at Virginia Wesleyan. W&L also topped Shenandoah, 7-2, in a fourth match. Long partner with Gabi Moss as a fairly new doubles pairing in all three matches. They posted an 8-3 win over Averett's Keira Gunning and Brenda Poulikidas. Long added a 6-3, 6-2 victory in singles play. Rated second in the Atlantic South Region, Long defeated regionally fifth-ranked Raine Weis from CNU, 6-4, 6-0. She and Moss posted an 8-7 (9-7) win over Weis and Tessa Trate, the third-ranked duo in the region. W&L's duo earned an 8-1 win over Alexa Brewster and Christine Zalameda from VWU. Long collected a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brewster in singles action. Long has now won eight straight singles matches to improve her record to 12-3 overall with a 10-2 mark at #1. She and Moss are 4-0 as a doubles team. Long is 14-8 overall in doubles matches including 9-5 from the top flight.

Lauren Long, Washington and Lee, Fy., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
March 27, 2023Long, a first-year from Carmel, Ind., went 4-0 in top-flight singles and doubles action as she helped nationally 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee to a pair of team victories to improve the Generals season record to 7-4 in all dual matchups and 4-0 in league play. Long played doubles with two different partners. She paired with Margaret Carlton in W&Ls 7-2 win over Bridgewater. The duo won 8-0 over Emma Nesselrodt and Ryan Roeber. Long added a second point with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Nesselrodt in singles action. Long was joined by Gabi Moss at #1 doubles in the Generals 8-1 team victory over Franklin & Marshall College. The tandem topped Cassidy Landau and Mackenzie Sherman, 8-3, with Long trouncing Landau, 6-1, 6-1, in singles action. Long is now 9-3 overall this year including 7-2 from the #1 position. She is 11-8 overall in doubles matches.

Jahveesha Combs, Shenandoah, Jr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
March 20, 2023Combs, a junior from Suffolk, Va., helped lead Shenandoah to a 2-2 mark against non-conference foes on its spring break trip last week with a 7-1 combined record during top-flight singles and doubles matches. Combs teamed with Allison Cherwien on all doubles pairings with the tandem going 3-1 overall. That began with an 8-3 win in the Hornets 7-2 loss to Stockton University. SU's duo downed Lily Muir and Sarb Devi with Combs adding a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3) triumph over Muir in singles play. Combs and Cherwien poste an 8-2 victory over Paige Kemper and Rachel C-Roberston in a 9-0 team win over Cairn University. Combs dropped Kemper in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In a 6-3 loss to Principia, Combs and Cherwien fell in a tight contest, 8-6, to Bissola Lassissi and Veronic Volkart. Combs earned one point back with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lassissi in singles play. Shenandoah defeated Ramapo, 7-2, in its final match. SU's #1 duo earned an 8-5 win over Melanie Brentnall and Mackenzie Dates. Combs lost just two games in taking down Brentnall, 6-0, 6-2.

Isabela Guilarte, Sweet Briar, Jr., #5/6 Singles
March 13, 2023Guilarte, a junior from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, had a busy and successful week in going 3-1 in singles play and helping Sweet Briar rack up a 3-1 team record against non-conference competition. Guilarte, who did not compete in doubles matches last week, won singles outings at the #5 and #6 ladder positions. She claimed a 0-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory over Angelle Thonton to help the Vixens to a 6-2 win over Berry College. Guilarte then bested Sophia Mita, 6-0, 6-0, in SBC's 9-0 triumph over Allegheny. Both of those victories came at #6 singles. Guilarte stepped up a position to #5 in an 8-1 win over New Jersey City University. She defeated Sara Zorzan, 6-1, 6-2. Sweet Briar came up on the short end of a 9-0 result to #21 Mary Washington to close the week. Guilarte took Riley Smith to three sets at #6 singles before fall 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5. It marked the first time a Vixens' player took a competitor from UMW to three sets since 2003. For the season, Guilarte is 10-3 in all singles matches including 4-2 at #6 and 1-0 at #4 and #5.

Ruth de Souza, Sweet Briar, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
March 06, 2023De Souza, a senior from Marilia, Brazil, earns her first weekly award of the season after helping Sweet Briar open ODAC play with a 7-2 win over Shenandoah University in one of two matches played by the Vixens last Wednesday. They also defeated Lynchburg, 9-0. De Souza played in top flight doubles and singles against at SU. She and Allison Wandling, an All-ODAC First Team duo last season combined for an 8-1 win over Jahveesha Coombs and Lily Kimble in doubles play. De Souza, who was an All-ODAC Second Team choice at #1 singles, then posted a 6-0, 7-5 win over Coombs in singles play. Coombs was a first team pick at #2 singles last year.

Gabi Moss, Washington and Lee, Jr., #2 Singles, #3 Doubles
February 27, 2023Moss, a junior from Scottsdale, Ariz., posted a solid 2-1 week to help nationally 21st-ranked Washington and Lee to a 1-1 team showing. Moss and Becket Waters teamed up to face Ainsley Heidbreder and Nina Moravek at #3 doubles in a match against #18 Washington University in St. Louis. W&L's duo dropped that match, 8-3 but Moss recovered for a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) triumph over Sophia Huynh in the Bears 6-3 victory over W&L. Moss then helped the Generals rebound with an 8-1 win over DePauw University. She topped Kat Wilder, 6-0, 6-1, at #2 singles.

Elizabeth Teefey, Lynchburg, Sr., #1 Singles, #1 Doubles
February 20, 2023Teefey, a senior from Amelia, Va., kicked off her 2023 spring season with a pair of victories in top flight action to help Lynchburg to an 8-1 team victory over Mary Baldwin University. Teefey took down Katlyn Massie in #1 singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 straight sets win. She teamed with her sister, Grace, in posting an 8-1 victory over Gretchen Lutz and Massie at #1 doubles. The pair was an All-ODAC First Team doubles team last year, while Elizabeth was a first team pick at #3 singles.
