Randolph Promotes Matthews to Volleyball Interim Head Coach

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Randolph has promoted Kara Matthews from assistant volleyball coach to the interim head position, effective July 1.

A two-year assistant coach for the WildCat program, Matthews helped guide the 2013 squad to its best record since 1997 serving as the top assistant to Johnathan Willis.

Willis stepped down to take an assistant position in Division I at Liberty.

As an assistant, Matthews had significant roles in coaching, recruiting, organization and administration and led the team during the non-traditional season this spring.

A graduate of Lynchburg, Matthews was a four-year letter-winner for the Hornets and is concluding her studies for a master's degree in sport management at Liberty in December.

She has coaching experience as a three-year assistant with the HOV Volleyball Club and with various summer camps, as well.

"We are very excited to have Coach Matthews move into this role," said Tina Hill, director of athletics. "She has helped our program move in a positive direction and we are confident she will continue to do so."

A national search will be conducted this fall to find a permanent replacement.
