R-MC's Lowers, Rogers Lead ODAC Volleyball Awards

RC's Bostwick, W&L's Kinzer Earn Special Awards

FOREST, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College took home a pair of special honors to lead the 2014 All-ODAC Volleyball Awards.  Yellow Jackets' outside hitter Courtney Lowers was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while R-MC mentor Bill Rogers took home ODAC Coach of the Year accolades.  Roanoke College middle hitter Brooke Bostwick was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year, while Washington and Lee University setter Alex Kinzer earned the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Scholar-Athlete award.

Lowers, a junior from Suffolk, Va., led the ODAC in kills with 492, the third-highest single-season total in ODAC history. Only former Roanoke College standout Heather Cook (517 in 2004) and Mackenzie Parsio (508 in 2004) from Guilford College recorded more.  Lowers also led the ODAC kills per set (4.60), total attacks (1,353), total points won (553.5) and points per set (5.2).  She added 324 digs and 35 aces to her season stat line.  Lowers notched 20 or more kills in six matches and recorded double figures in 27-of-31 matches played.  She collected an ODAC season-best 34 kills in a five set win over Randolph College in early October, which tied for the fourth-most in one match in the conference record books.

Rogers enjoys his third ODAC top coaching honor, adding this year's award to those earned in 2009 and 2012.  He just completed his 13th season guiding the Yellow Jackets volleyball program, leading his squad to the top seed in the ODAC Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons.  R-MC went 20-11 overall and 10-1 in conference play, increasing Rogers' career records to 295-122 (.707) and 117-20 (.854), respectively.

Bostwick, a freshman from Pilot, Va., was an integral part in both the Maroons' offense and defense in her first season.  She led the squad with 253 kills, adding 91 digs and 74 total blocks, the seventh-most in the league.  Her 58 block assists rank fourth.  Bostwick notched double figures in kills in 11 matches played, including a season-best 17 in a non-conference win at Methodist University.  She had six blocks twice in a match, both coming in Roanoke wins over Southern Virginia (3-2) and Bridgewater (3-1).

Kinzer, a junior from Greenville, S.C., adds the scholar-athlete award to an All-ODAC First Team accolade.  In the classroom, Kinzer maintains a 3.819 grade point average as a Politics major.  She is a four-time honoree on the Washington and Lee Dean's List and twice earned a spot on the All-ODAC Academic Team.  On the court, Kinzer ranks fifth in the ODAC in assists (818) and fourth in assists per set (7.79).  She has registered 30 or more assists in 13-of-29 matches played, including a season-high 42 in a 3-2 win over Marietta College.  Kinzer has been efficient with her attack attempts, racking up 100 kills and a .818 hitting percentage.  She has recorded 197 digs, 58 blocks and 46 aces.  The Generals will represent the ODAC in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament, set to begin this weekend.
