Washington and Lee Off to Berry for NCAA Volleyball Regional Play

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Washington and Lee University will be the ODAC's lone representative in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament as the field of 64 teams was announced by the NCAA this afternoon.

Like the Generals, 43 schools won their conference tournaments, awarding them automatic qualification into the field. Two berths went to a true independent teams in "Pool B," while the remaining 19 spots went to at-large selections in "Pool C."

Washington and Lee (21-12) joins seven other teams in an eight-team regional hosted by Berry College (25-3). The Generals open with Colorado College (31-2), which one the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) title. The winner of that match will face either Emory University (24-6) or Meredith College (23-4). Emory won the University Athletic Association (UAA) crown, while Meredith captured the USA South championship.

The host Vikings, winners of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) title, meet Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (19-12), winners of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championship. The winner of that match will meet either Birmingham-Southern College (25-6) or the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (26-4). BSC earned its tournament spot via at-large selection, while UMHB hoisted the American Southwest Conference (ASC) trophy.

Regional action is set for November 9-11 (save for 8-10 in Grand Rapids). The eight winners from the eight regional pods head to the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., for quarterfinal thru championship play. Those matches are slated for November 15-17.
