Lowers, a junior from Suffolk, Va., put together a stellar performance last week, setting ODAC season-highs in the process. In a 3-2 win at Randolph, Lowers registered a career-high and school-record 34 kills, tying for the fourth highest single-match total in ODAC history. The 34 kills are the most since former Roanoke standout Melissa Slusher notched 34 winners in 2002 and out-pace the next closest total this season by 10 kills. Lowers averaged 6.80 kills per set and hit .337 for the match on an ODAC season-high 83 attacks. She added a team-best 26 digs and a block, accounting for 34.5 points. For the year, Lowers leads the ODAC at 4.56 kills per set and is second with 301 overall winners.
Volleyball Honor Roll
Kayla Smeltzer, Eastern Mennonite (Sr., RS -
Richmond, Va.)
Smeltzer notched 12 total kills and hit .308 in the Royals 1-1
week. She averaged 2.0 kills per set, powered by seven
winners in a 3-0 triumph of Notre Dame of Maryland.
Kennady Thompson, Emory & Henry (So., M -
Chattanooga, Tenn.)
Thompson helped the Wasps to a 4-0 week, including a
3-0 win over Shenandoah. She notched 38 total kills and hit
2.98 with 11 total blocks on her way to an all-tournament team spot
at the Knights Fall Classic at Neumann University. She had 12
kills and four blocks in a 3-0 win over Rutgers-Camden and 10 kills
and four blocks in a 3-1 win over Neumann.
Kelsey Ruehling, Guilford (Jr., OH - Three Rivers,
Calif.)
Ruehling notched career-highs of 20 kills and seven aces in the
Quakers 3-2 win over N.C. Wesleyan. She also had 16 digs and
hit .340.
Amanda Perry, Lynchburg (So., OH - Glen Ellyn,
Ill.)
Perry collected 10 kills and hit .400 with seven digs, two
aces and a block in a 3-0 win at Eastern Mennonite.
Jordan Templin, Randolph (Sr., OH - Ferrum, Va.)
Templin gathered 49 kills in the WildCats 2-1 week.
She had 21 winners in a 3-2 loss to Randoph-Macon, adding in
14 digs. She notched 15 kills in a 3-0 win over William Peace
and 13 winners in a 3-2 win over Salem. She had 16 digs in
that contest.
Brooke Bostwick, Roanoke (Fr., MH - Pilot, Va.)
Bostwick notched 17 kills and five blocks while
hitting .433 with two aces in a 3-1 win over Methodist.
Kirstin Sessoms, Virginia Wesleyan
(Jr., S - Virginia Beach, Va.)
Sessoms recorded 132 assists and 54 digs in the Marlins 3-2 week,
which included a trip to California for the Leo Invitational at the
University of La Verne. She tied a career-high with 45
assists in a 3-1 win over Widener. She notched 34 helpers in
a 3-0 win over Endicott. She now has 619 assists on the
season, a new career-high.
Kasey Cannon, Washington and Lee
(Jr., OH - North Wales, Pa.)
Cannon helped the Generals to a 2-1 week by collecting 34 kills and
hitting .282 with 27 digs. She had 14 winners in a 3-0 win
over Hollins, and then notched 10 each in a loss to fifth-ranked
Wittenberg (3-0) and win over John Carroll (3-2). She added
18 digs against JCU.
