WLU Picked to Win Sixth Straight Title

Lynchburg, Roanoke Sit Close for Second
SALEM, Va. --- Washington and
Lee University collected 78 total points and six first place votes
as the coaches tabbed the Generals to win their sixth-straight
women's cross country title in the annual ODAC Women's Cross
Country Preseason Poll. Lynchburg College (69 pts.) and
Roanoke College (67 pts.) are separated by only two points for
second and third, respectively. The Hornets earned one first
place nod while the Maroons picked up a pair.
Washington and Lee won its conference-best 12th women's
cross country championship in 2008, placing seven runners on
All-ODAC teams. Three out of the seven are set to return to
Kris Hoey's squad, the reigning ODAC Coach of the Year each of the
last two years. The 2006 ODAC Rookie of the Year, senior Kat
Telfeyan, and three-time All-ODAC honoree, senior Dorothy Todd,
spearhead the list of returnees. Junior Katherine Fenwick
also earned second team accolades with her ninth place finish at
the championship meet a season ago.
Roanoke placed three runners on the all-conference teams in
finishing second at the 2008 championships. Senior Liz Mumaw
finished sixth, while juniors Erin Gollery and Maggie Moore notched
eighth and 12th place finishes, respectively.
Lynchburg also placed three runners on the all-conference teams to
notch a third place mark, including senior Ashley Meyer, who
crossed the line third overall. Junior Jennie Pernisi ended
her morning only two spots back, rounding out the top five
finishers.
The 2009 ODAC Women's Cross Country Championship is set for
Saturday, October 31. The event will be hosted by Roanoke
College.
