WLU Picked to Win Sixth Straight Title

Lynchburg, Roanoke Sit Close for Second

SALEM, Va. --- Washington and Lee University collected 78 total points and six first place votes as the coaches tabbed the Generals to win their sixth-straight women's cross country title in the annual ODAC Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll.  Lynchburg College (69 pts.) and Roanoke College (67 pts.) are separated by only two points for second and third, respectively.  The Hornets earned one first place nod while the Maroons picked up a pair.

Washington and Lee won its conference-best 12th women's cross country championship in 2008, placing seven runners on All-ODAC teams.  Three out of the seven are set to return to Kris Hoey's squad, the reigning ODAC Coach of the Year each of the last two years.  The 2006 ODAC Rookie of the Year, senior Kat Telfeyan, and three-time All-ODAC honoree, senior Dorothy Todd, spearhead the list of returnees.  Junior Katherine Fenwick also earned second team accolades with her ninth place finish at the championship meet a season ago.

Roanoke placed three runners on the all-conference teams in finishing second at the 2008 championships.  Senior Liz Mumaw finished sixth, while juniors Erin Gollery and Maggie Moore notched eighth and 12th place finishes, respectively.

Lynchburg also placed three runners on the all-conference teams to notch a third place mark, including senior Ashley Meyer, who crossed the line third overall.  Junior Jennie Pernisi ended her morning only two spots back, rounding out the top five finishers.

The 2009 ODAC Women's Cross Country Championship is set for Saturday, October 31.  The event will be hosted by Roanoke College.
