ODAC Athletes of the Week | Cross Country

FOREST, Va. --- The second week of ODAC Athletes of the Week honorees continues with cross country on its first Tuesday release. Conference teams competed in several meets across the region with some strong performances. Earning this week's ODAC Cross Country Runner of the Week honors are Eastern Mennonite senior Abigail Shelly (WXC) and Washington and Lee first-year Connor Verrett.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Connor Verrett | Washington and Lee | Fy.
Verrett, a first-year from Cockeysville, Md., made the most of his first collegiate competition with a top-three finish in the multi-divisional Galen Piper Challenge hosted by Shippensburg University (Pa.). Verrett finished the six-kilometer course third overall out of 77 competitors and second amongst non-Division I runners with a time of 19:29.80 and a 6:13.7 per-mile clip. He was just 0.03 seconds short of the University of Pittsburgh's Nick Cardamone for second overall. Verrett's efforts helped Washington and Lee claim the team victory with 42 points, topping host Shippensburg by 20 markers.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Abigail Shelly | Eastern Mennonite | Sr.
Shelly, a senior from Collinsville, Miss., continued the strong start to her 2019 campaign with a top finish at the Mennonite Heritage Invitational hosted by Eastern Mennonite. Shelly finished the five-kilometer course second overall out of 23 competitors with a time of 21:16.5. The finish marked the top individual showing of her career. Shelly's efforts helped EMU win the team title with 22 points, 15 clear of St. Mary's College (Md.).
