Yates, a sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., competed in her first race of the season at the Queens Royals Cross Country Challenge, which featured 39 teams largely comprised of NCAA Division II institutions. Yates finished 53rd out of 343 runners overall after posting the ODAC's fastest five-kilometer time of the season at 18:58.9. Washington and Lee took 13th in the team standings.

Grupp finished third at the Piedmont Invitational/USA South Preview, posting a 6K time of 24:48.1, which marks the fastest 6K time of her rookie campaign. She finished 34 seconds off the winning pace. E&H was sixth out of nine competing teams.
