Emory & Henry Rides Streak to Women's Basketball's Top Seed

Emory & Henry is riding a nine-game winning streak entering the ODAC women's basketball tournament.

Three Ties Lead to Seedings Shuffle

FOREST, Va. --- Emory & Henry College won for the ninth straight outing on Saturday afternoon, eliminating the possibility for a tie at the top of the standings and securing the #1 seed in the upcoming ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament. There were, however, three other ties that helped shape the tournament field.

Two of the three deadlocks were sorted thru head-to-head tiebreakers. That started with the second seed where Randolph-Macon College's two wins over Lynchburg College in the regular season awarded the Yellow Jackets the higher position. The Hornets sit third, with Guilford College rounding out the teams earning a bye thru the first round as the fourth seed.

The second stalemate featured Washington and Lee University and Virginia Wesleyan University. The Generals topped the Marlins in their only regular season meeting, leaving W&L as the fifth seed and VWU as the sixth seed. Both will host first round games on Monday, February 19.

The remaining two first round hosts also needed tiebreakers to determine, but it went a little deeper than head-to-head comparison. Bridgewater College and Eastern Mennonite University split their matchups during the conference slate, requiring the second step of the ODAC's tiebreaking procedure to sift out their order. The Eagles earned a slightly larger total thru the conference's five-point tiebreaker, leaving BC as the seventh seed and the Royals as #8.

Shenandoah University with make the jog down I-81 to EMU in the first round as the ninth seed. Tenth-seeded Roanoke College will head north up the interstate to Bridgewater. Like its men's program, Randolph College heads to Virginia Wesleyan in the opening round, while Hollins University takes a trip north to Washington and Lee.
