Lynchburg Tops Bridgewater for Ninth-Straight ODAC Field Hockey Title

LYNCHBURG, Va. --- Top-seeded Lynchburg College earned its ninth-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Bridgewater College in the finals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Field Hockey Tournament.

It took overtime to determine a winner in the two teams regular-season match-up, a 4-3 LC win in early October. This time the Hornets jumped on the Eagles in the early going, controlling the majority of the play and capitalized 15 minutes in when senior Kelsey Link tapped in a feed from Taylor Quillen for a 1-0 lead. LC kept the pressure on and added a second tally at the 24:17 mark when freshman Lacey Elliott found the back of the cage.

The Eagles had several flurries of good offensive chances throughout the contest, including a pair of penalty corners and four shots (three saved by LC's Beka Hess) between Lynchburg's goals. The Eagles had another good chance to get in the scoring column midway through the second half with a trio of shots, two turned away by Hess.

Hess finished with six saves, as did Eagle net-minder Amanda Harper. Bridgewater held slight edges in shots (14-11) and penalty corners (8-5), but LC led in shots on goal (8-6).

Bridgewater finished its season with a 12-8 record. Lynchburg earns its 10th-straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and awaits the unveiling of the NCAA brackets and match-ups Sunday evening.
