Redwood Tops Latimer in One-Hole Playoff for Individual Medal
CAPE CHARLES, Va. --- Tuesday was a day of
firsts on the links at Bay Creek Resort & Club as Bridgewater
College improved upon its second round lead to capture its first
ODAC golf title. Mike Redwood supplied the Eagles with their
first ODAC individual champion as the senior made up four strokes
to tie Guilford College’s Peter Latimer before winning a
one-hole playoff.
Bridgewater (312-299-304—915) placed three golfers in the top
six as John Phillips (76-74-77—227) and Travis Gahman
(79-72-77—228) finished fifth and sixth, respectively,
joining Redwood (74-76-71—221) near the top. Their next
chance to duplicate the effort will be in the 2010 NCAA Division
III Championships in two weeks at the Hershey Links & Country
Club in Hershey, Pa. Plays runs May 11-14.
Guilford (314-302-309—925), which owned a high regional
ranking entering the ODAC Tournament, must wait to see if it earns
one of only three at-large bids. Latimer (79-69-73—221)
led the Quakers to a second place ODAC showing. Roanoke
College (317-307-306—930) ended the event in third.
The round of the day and tournament belonged to Lynchburg
College’s Conrad Anguera. He fired a final round 68 to
finish third overall (81-76-68—225). His efforts helped
lead the Hornets to the best team score (302) for the second
straight round.
