W&L Men's Tennis Claims its 34th ODAC Championship

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- The top-seeded Washington and Lee men's tennis team notched a 5-1 victory over second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday to claim its sixth straight Old Dominion Athletic Championship.

W&L has now won 34 of the 39 all-time men's tennis championships hosted by the ODAC.

The rematch of last season's conference title contest saw W&L jump out to a 2-1 lead following the doubles points. The team of senior Christopher Hu (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) and junior Michael Holt (Henrico, Va. / Mills Godwin) registered an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles and the duo of sophomores Jordan Krasner (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) and Will Bannister (Bath, England / Beechen Cliff School) also logged an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Holt and Krasner won easily in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, and first-year Ethan Markman (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) also posted a straight-set win at No. 4 singles to give the Generals five team points and the victory.

W&L improved to 15-8 overall, while Virginia Wesleyan dropped to 14-5.

Washington and Lee will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship which begins on Friday at a site to be determined.
